Searching your name on Google just got more annoying. Remember, if you don't go into your search settings and select "do not use personal results," you will see this every time.

With “Search Plus Your World” turning its search engine into a wonderland for its social product, Google+, the company is now taking advantage of the fact that you may in fact Google yourself too. During an R&D ego search today, I found that Google is now asking me to complete my profile on Google+

Lol, yup it does. I just Googled myself and the first thing it showed, nice and big mind you, was my G+ profile telling me it's 95% complete. Not sure I care for this. I might have to turn this feature off on the search thing now, lol.

Mine is stuck at 95% don't know what else to fill out. Of course the page doesn't say.

So, wait... you're problem is you can find yourself in search results... because you are logged into G+/Gmail in a web browser... as if you couldn't possibly find some other way of being logged into either through some non-browser based application... which would avoid the problem entirely?

#firstworldproblem

I'm affraid I'll lose my mind at the awsomeness of me if I search for myself. Oh wait, thats right I'm not awsome I'll just get 1 or 2 links to me and a bunch of Did you mean to search for ....

Ugh, it looks like a page right of linkedinn's book.

Fortunately (I guess?) I don't search for myself, so not really a problem in practice, it just looks stupid.

How vain do you have to be to search for yourself?

Now I'm off to search for myself just to see how far along my G+ profile is.

I use the heck out of Google resources. From the Chrome browser, to Gmail, to Google Docs, to Google Sites, etc. But I have NO USE for social browsing like Google+ or Facebook.
When I'm stuck behind a PC I have work to do and if I get a few minutes, I hit a few forums I like [H] and some other automotive related ones. And that is about it.

Dont forget Google chrome! Dont forget to create a Google + profile! Dont forget to give us your cell # and alternative email address so you can't hide from us anywhere! I am no conspiracy theorist but something about Google knowing everything you search, every link you go to and everything about you personally bugs me.

I had a G+ acount, but I never used it since I hate social data farming, so I deleted it few days ago.

It's been doing that to me for months. I added a friend and left it at that. Doesn't ask me anything now.

Your ISP knows more about you than Google, and they have access to your bank account. Also, if the "Protecting Children From Online Pornographers act passes, then your ISP will be required to record everything you do, make the log accessible to the police, and keep it for 18 months.

Ya I have tried to turn of google plus, but they are integrating it into everything. To me it is malware at this point. Tons of people have it but do not even realize it. This is the first product that google has shown its cards with. Ruthless in nature just like any business. Viral in tactics. Several times I have thought about getting rid of my gmail account because of it.

Yeah, this is a real problem!

Search engines will give you links to porn related pages when you are looking for something totally different.
If they are gathering EVERYTHING you are seeing. They can conclude you are looking at porn.

Yesterday I did a search looking for info on building a crucible to melt aluminum. I found a YT video on how to do that. Went to YT to view the video and on the side bar are PORN videos that the YT search engine pulled up somehow relating it to aluminum or crucible or melting, etc.

Explain how they have access to my bank account? Or anything else I do under https?

Yes, and this is wrong as well.

Theres no porn on youtube (ok, some probably gets through). They have gotten really good at removing it close to 30 seconds after it is uploaded.

True, what is uploaded is "previews" of xxx porn on porn sites. Will you see naked persons on youtube etc, etc. yes. A lot that comes up is foreign language stuff with that kind of content.

Again, what does that have to do with building a crucible for melting aluminum?

The people that post those videos tag them with everything under the sun so their videos come up nomatter what they search for. There are actually "SEO" lists that contain all the tags so you just need to copy and paste. If Google catches them doing this, the videos and possibly their channel go away. Also, "Crucible" has several other meanings that do not involve melting metals.

My ISP has access to no accounts. Anyone can hide what they do online from their ISP via encrypted VPN and/or TOR/JAP so cut the BS.

Cut the BS? So we should VPN to.....Where? A VPN only secures the connection from one point to another, it simply moves the point at which the data collection starts, unless you have a VPN connection to every webserver that you want to visit. Your ISP doesn't have access to any accounts? How do you pay them then? If you use a check they have your account number and routing number, if you use a credit card they have your cc number, exp date, and cv2 code.

Turn off what, exactly? It doesn't do anything if you don't use it.

Some people will just never be happy. I mean, look at this thread. People are upset that if they google themselves, a message pops up asking them to complete their profile. FFS, from some of these responses you would think Google is forcing you to fill out your profile before they let you turn on your computer or drive to work. I never thought I would be this amazed and the general population's ability to bitch incessantly.

Umm we signed up for email not spam why should I be happy?

Google has made plus the first link at the top of my gmail. I clicked on it once to see pictures my sister sent me and they set up a profile based on my personal info and made everything public by default. Then I had to go figure out how to turn it all off. It reminds me of that garbage hi5 where they do everything possible to trick everyone inot getting wrapped up in the system. Trust me google phones are going to start shipping that create you a profile soon without you even accepting that. It reminds me of how nasty apple is with itunes and their devices, and microsoft was with messenger back in the day.

Bullshit on Google automatically creating a profile for you and setting everything to public. That doesn't happen. it will fill in some of the blanks if you have created a google profile before, but Google Profiles (and all the fields in them) are completely public, so I don't know why Google+ would bother you.

Google has a right to link to their own software on their own website, i'm sorry this bothers you.

Google+ does not spam you. if you're getting a lot of google+ emails, its because you have stupid friends that added your email address to their "circles". Its easy enough to fix this. Just get rid of your stupid friends, or make a gmail filter.

Also, Picasa is used as the image gallery for Google+. you didn't even need to go to Google+ to see the pictures.

I pay my ISP via my bank online but that gives them no legal authorization to access my bank account. You think an ISP is some kind of legal authority or something?

If I choose to use secure vpn my connection is encrypted so my ISP would not be able to see what I was downloading. Encryption is also how you bypass ISP throttling when using P2P.

Secure VPNs use cryptographic tunneling protocols to provide confidentiality by blocking intercepts and packet sniffing, allowing sender authentication to block identity spoofing, and provide message integrity by preventing message alteration.

Secure VPN protocols include the following:

IPsec (Internet Protocol Security) was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), and was initially developed for IPv6, which requires it. This standards-based security protocol is also widely used with IPv4. Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol frequently runs over IPsec. Its design meets most security goals: authentication, integrity, and confidentiality. IPsec functions by summarizing an IP packet in conjunction with a surrounding packet, and encrypting the outcome.
Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) can tunnel an entire network's traffic, as it does in the OpenVPN project, or secure an individual connection. A number of vendors provide remote access VPN capabilities through SSL. An SSL VPN can connect from locations where IPsec runs into trouble with Network Address Translation and firewall rules.
Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS), is used in Cisco's next-generation VPN product, Cisco AnyConnect VPN, to solve the issues SSL/TLS has with tunneling over UDP.
Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption (MPPE) works with their Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol and in several compatible implementations on other platforms.
Microsoft introduced Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP) in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1. SSTP tunnels Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) or Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol traffic through an SSL 3.0 channel.
MPVPN (Multi Path Virtual Private Network). Ragula Systems Development Company owns the registered trademark "MPVPN".[2]
Secure Shell (SSH) VPN -- OpenSSH offers VPN tunneling to secure remote connections to a network or inter-network links. This should not be confused with port forwarding. OpenSSH server provides a limited number of concurrent tunnels and the VPN feature itself does not support personal authentication.[3][4][5]

Google+ forces people to use their real name which can put some people in harms way. They now say they will let people use a pseudonym if you send them ID documentation which say they will destroy afterwards. Anyone who trusts them with their info is a fucking idiot. I now can't open a simple youtube account because they demand I sign up for Google+. Fuck them.

Really? If you need to hide your identity DON'T SIGN UP FOR A SOCIAL NETWORK. FFS. Google does not verify your identity, just use a fake name that sounds real, or just don't use the service. Your life does not depend on Google services unless you make it that way.

If I walk into a bank wearing my airsoft gear and carrying a rifle, i'll probably get shot. Fucking banks preventing me from wearing airsoft gear. Ban banks!

Yes, you provided all kinds of proof that VPN are secure. Good job. My point is that the VPN only secures you to the VPN server. Once you are past that, all your data is in the clear.

Your ISP doesn't have any legal authority to access your accounts, but that doesn't stop a bored employee that makes minimum wage from helping them selves to some easy to sell identities online. The point is, they still have access to that information, and Google does not.

1) You don't have to send Google ID documentation to use a pseudonym

2) Just lie, big whoop. Asks for your name and you don't want to use the service? Type in "John Smith" - bam, problem solved.

Not talking about me but what if a person wants to use youtube to post political dissident videos but needs to keep their ID secret? Ever think of that, genius?

Of course I know to use fake info but it is just the fact that google are so draconian about it that rubs me, and many others, the wrong way.

Their official statement is that you do need to send them ID documentation. Just read it yesterday in an article regarding them being asked about it by a privacy watchdog so go look it up before you open your arrogant mouth. Like Facebook, if they find you are using fake info they will ban your ass.
