Windows 8 is starting to take its final shape for the upcoming beta this spring and the subsequent gold release later in the year. We have seen brief glimpses of the new operating system and now we have a description of how Windows 8 will negotiate Internet connectivity via Mobile Broadband.

We knew that if we were to give you true mobility, that Wi-Fi alone would not be enough. Therefore, for Windows 8, we fully developed and integrated mobile broadband (MB) as a first-class connectivity experience within Windows – right alongside Wi-Fi.

Well this sort of seals the deal on metered data. Windows 8 provides a way to easily see how much data you've used and minimizes data sent based on WAN connection type. Microsoft would have no reason to put development time into these features if they didn't think the industry was headed there.

Finally, I was hoping for an option to stop windows updates and other bandwidth tasks when I am tethered to my phone.
