Lemme guess... All plastic and steel? If so. I'd be really disappointed.
 
Is it just me or are there zero 5.25 bays in that thing? I couldn't tell if there were any 3.5 internal bays either. But there have to be some somewhere, maybe behind the mobo ala rv03? Either way it looks like a case almost designed as a 1 off for the quad SLI users, and with very few units getting built will probly be priced > than the tj07. :(
 
Its 6 way SLI. It uses custom ribbon cables to link the graphics cards to the mobo (there is no mobo underneath the cards). There is a video of it on Youtube with Tony from Silverstone talking about it. At this point its a concept case and they don't even know yet if they will produce it.
 
I wish they'd make an FT04 (or a clean looking Raven) that was SR-2 compatible. :(
 
While its pretty obvious there's alot of work that needs to be done, as per youtube videos. I like where this is going. Its quite possible we may have a modular case on the way as the finished product. Arrange components (except mobo) any way you wish.

I just hope the price isn't too steep.

You know, since the adapters allow the cards to be positioned above the board, you could probably fit: 18 single-slot cards, 9 dual-slot cards, or even 6 triple-slot Asus ROG Mars GTX 590s! :eek:

The motherboard used was from the ASUS supercomputer series which has 7x PCI-E x16 (v2.0) so the max would be 7x cards.

There are 7 PCI-E slots. Each slot has an extender ribbon cable coming from it. Bandwidth is not the issue. There are simply no more physical connections, so using the ASUS board mentioned, nothing will take it above 7 graphics cards.

Using a different motherboard is another matter, but Silverstone have based this case around the ASUS supercomputer boards which have 7 slots.

i think he was talking about using a splitter to make each x16 slot into two x8 slots. with a modular case where you can put the cards anywhere, this should be feasible. i wonder why they used a mix of 480s and 580s. maybe thats what they had on hand, or do you think theres some incompatibility problem there?

I don't have any insider knowledge of the Silverstone stuff, I am just reading the same sources as you guys.

At a guess I would say they started with a 4-way SLI setup and then thought "how can we make this more extreme?". AFAIK 4-way is the max cards supported by mainstream drivers\chipsets for rendering. Then they just threw in the extra cards for more computational power rather than rendering.

yeah its not for rendering. it is however useful for folding, or possibly for bitcoin mining if youre into that. :) or running like a million displays.

No, it's not. The days of GPU farms are over. A system like this would produce fewer points and consume considerably more power than a CPU-centric system of the same cost.

I'd like to see more myself. But damn, that thing looks massive. I already think that my TJ10 is huge, this looks sizable bigger.
