37inch Westinghouse LCD monitor

I would be. I have an LG 37" and leave windows open for several hours with no burn issues. Your LCD shouldn't be affected after an hour of a still image. How long have you had the monitor?
 
I have some moderate image retention on mine as well, but it is limited to the rightmost 3-4 inches or so. I wonder if Costco will still honor their lifetime refund guarantee as I bought it before they stopped doing that. Technically it should be grandfathered in, and $900 goes a long way now.
 
I used to own this monitor. If you check out the dedicated thread for this monitor on this site you'll find that this is a common issue with this monitor as it ages. I wouldn't be as worried as others here might say you should be. Just be more cautious with leaving your monitor on still images from now on. Shut it off when you know you're going to be away from the monitor for more then 10 minutes and you should be fine.
 
Not to threadjack at all (my 37W3 has the same issue) but are there any current displays of the same size and resolution that make a good replacement for the aging 37W3's?

I'm curious to know almost the same thing. Are there monitors larger than 30" being sold?

You can use a TV if you want a monitor larger than 30" but you will not get a higher resolution than 1920 x 1080.

A bigger screen size does not necessarily mean a higher resolution, you won't be able to fit more windows/applications onto the screen, it will just make everything BIGGER due to a larger pixel pitch.

Now, this is fine if you just want something for gaming and the lower resolution should save you a GPU upgrade or 2 over a 30" monitor but for general computing and screen real estate, 30" screens at 2560 x 1600 win hands down.

It could be the regular "burn-in" which some people said happens...but never happened to me when I was using it...

Or it could be the "new" blotching issues that these are having..

Here is what it looks like (when it is on, doesn't show when its off). It slowly gets worse and worse over months. Mine is barely coming in still, but I barely keep it on these days so that helps.

So just make sure it isn't the last thing if not then you should be fine :p
 
When do LCDs have problems with burn in? I mean even my 50" Plasma has 0 burn in? Im confused.

It's one of the Westy W3's so-called defects, i'm guessing it's a combo of a specific defect + age.

Oh, and LCD's burn in quite nicely actually, it just takes longer to set in. Take a walk around my workplace and you'll see a few with severe burn-in, probably because their brightness is jacked up and no screensavers are running.

What causes these blotches to suddenly appear and get worse? Are the pixels somehow driven by a too high voltage which kills the transistors in the long run?

Well, yeah. it doesnt look like the picture you have it on there, mine is more like a faded window stuck on the screen, but its gone for now. I will look at it later to see if has any light bloching.
