Is it worth it to have them RAID for price or just single?

I would just get a single SSD and not have to deal with the loss of TRIM when using raid.
 
A benchmark like that does not say anything about real world application performance and also the problems that will occur as a result of not having TRIM.
 
just secure erase once in a while and lack of trim becomes less of an issue
 
Background GC works in RAID guys... really it is good enough that you don't miss TRIM.

Not worth it. I had 4 OCZ in RAID0 and yes my benchmarks were flying but real life performance was almost the same - windows load almost the same time (maybe 1-2 sec faster, photoshop loads in 2-3 sec, outlook the same). I assume that you will be using it as OS/boot drive.

Well, it may be worth it if you are constantly moving 10GB files back and forth. You might save couple of seconds.
 
I've had Intel 80gb X25-M G2 SSD's as single drives and now in RAID 0 and in day to day use I can't tell the difference. I put mine in an array mostly so my OS partition was larger. They do benchmark much higher now, but that's about it.
 
TRIM is NOT a huge issue, certainly not as big as the poster who piped up twice in here to discourage RAID0 because of the lack of it.

Yes, lack of TRIM will cause a degradation in WRITE performance over time, but we're talking months or even YEARS assuming you've setup your system properly and in a sane manner. And if and when the decrease in write speed DOES become noticeable in everyday usage curing it is as simple as backing up your data and sending the secure_erase ATA command to the SSD (via the appropriate utility) - presto, you've got an SSD with brand new write performance again.

Those of us who have reaped the benefits of having multiple SSDs in RAID0 can attest to the fact that the speed increase is definitely worth it.

It's getting harder to fight off the urban legends associated with TRIM or the lack thereof... sheesh.

1. NO, performance isn't going to go right into the shitter just because TRIM commands aren't being passed to your SSD. Read performance isn't affected and the effect on write performance is nowhere near immediate. As I said several months at least... possibly years.

2. NO, lack of TRIM will not wear your SSD out faster.

3. NO, lack of TRIM will not cause your SSD to go nuts and kill your puppy, kitten, babies, in-laws.
 
Actually, not using TRIM likely will cause an SSD to wear out slightly faster. Probably not a big factor in most usage patterns, but with TRIM, the write amplification factor will be lower on average, and so the number of erase/write cycles will be lower on average. But I agree it is not something to worry about in most cases.

But I disagree with you that running in RAID 0 without TRIM is a good idea for most people. No doubt there are a few applications where it is beneficial, but for the vast majority of people who ask about it in this forum, I strongly suspect they will be better off with TRIM and foregoing the RAID 0.
