First off I'm not entirely sure of the right forum/subforum, so apologies to the Mods if they need to move this.
Update 10th July '10: Flash version 10,0,42,34 does not cause any crashes however any version 10.1xxx at this moment is causing the "nv4_disp.dll" crash.
I'll cut right to the chase: If all of a sudden viewing videos on youtube is causing your system to crash then Right Click on a video before you start it playing and untick "Enable Hardware Acceleration"
This problem had been bugging me for the past few week or so, I recently changed ISP (USB modem to Ethernet router) as well as a pile of software updates and I was having a lot of trouble nailing down the cause of BSOD when viewing youtube videos. I tried all the usual routes of un-installing/re-installing drivers, different versions of flash, tried OCCT and memtest86 (both clear), I finally stumbled upon the suggestion to disable hardware acceleration on one of my many Google searches. I tried it yesterday and today, with no crashes.
I re-enabled it just there and almost straight away got a BSOD, here is the report from the whocrashed home edition program (very handy wee tool):
If you are getting BSOD when viewing youtube videos with nv4_disp.dll being blamed, then try the fix I've suggested.
Note: this happened on both Firefox and IE8, this is a Flash problem that adobe seem to be trying to blame on graphics card drivers.
My specs:
Windows XP SP3
Abit IP35-E
Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600
Gigabyte Nvidia 8500GT 256MB
Corsair Twinx DDR2 XMS 2GB PC5400
320 Gb Samsung HD321KJ Spinpoint T1
160GB Samsung HD160HJ SpinPoint T16
TRUE 120 + 1200rpm Scythe S-Flex
