Backpack for an Asus G73?

I recently purchased an Asus G73JH-X1 laptop that I love to death, but I'm having a problem.. I can't seem to find a decent packpack that I know will fit the thing. I've been eyeing an Astro Scout backpack (http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/64/Scout-Backpack/), but I really don't want to bother shipping one back and forth if it won't fit. Any G73 owners here have a backpack they can recommend?

Sadly the X1 doesn't come with the backpack that the A1/A2 gives you. I really wish they would have included it with the X1 also, considering how hard it is to find a decent one elsewhere.
 
I have to bump this thread. I also am in need of a bag, either messenger bag style or backpack.

Just bought a targus messenger style from Frys, and it fits, but god is it tight. Anyone?
 
I have been looking too I have seen a list of backpacks that HAVE been confirmed to fit it. Of course the two Slappas fit it. The Targus XL?? and Citygear are very large bag that do fit it. The Dell XPS backpack I believe for their 17"(1730?) latops fit it. The Mobile Edge alienware backpack for the m17x fits.Scout Astro pack does fit the first post inquires.

Now do NOT go to ebags and use their laptop bag finder, it simply does not work.Now I am seeing if larger backpacks from O;Neil or Quiksilver will work, I bought the Carver from Quiksilver to test that space not in the laptop compartment but in the main compartment. Also the Point blank from them seems to be quite large and roomy.
 
Astro Bag arrived today, it's a tight fit using the laptop sleeve, but if you remove it. It fits fine. Debating whether we should return it or not
 
I have a 17" targus backpack that I bought a couple of years ago for my last laptop (which was actually a 15" model) and it just so happens that the G73 fits perfectly. If it was any bigger it probably wouldn't.
 
This Everki Beacon doesn't look too shabby . Looks like it has a built in tarp that is tucked away at the bottom of the backpack ( just in case of those flash floods or if Noah's Ark appears and you don't want your G73 to get wet .

The Slappa has been always good, but their backpacks haven't changed much since I had a XPS Gen 2. I'll post some pics of the Astro, I personally have not seen it up close. ( since I had it delivered to my fiance's work address.) If you're reading the G73 backpack thread at notebook review. The guy that apparently purchased the Astro backpack was already raving about the backpack before it was even delivered lol

That's the danger with reading reviews from people who haven't compared with multiple products in-hand. You'll often get the "mine's the best/justifing my purchase" mentality.

I can't speak for the Astro, but I did try 6-7 bags with the laptop (Targus, Citygear, Wenger, Lowpro, iLugger, Kensington... pretty much anything available at J&R that fit) and the Slappa was the best overall and best by far in build quality/materials. I've actually been using it to lug around the G73 and a Lenovo x200 with AV accessories for a work project and it's been working out perfectly.
 







I guess the G73 does fit in the console/laptop compartment, but it's too snug for my liking. Still considering whether I should return the bag. The G73 has no problems fitting in the main compartment. For reference, Last pic is a Macbook Pro in the laptop/console compartment with a G73 in the main
 
Quiksilver Carver works, it actually fits in both main and laptop compartments. The laptop compartment is very very tight. I would not recommend using it.

Cool thing is it comes with a wet/dry bag that is a perfect fit for the G73, just the side of the comp shows some at the top when cinched.

This is not a padded backpack, reason why it has a tad bit more interior space.
Also Ebags said the G73 would not fit this bag,lol it is useless.
If you use the laptop compartment the corners will push on the inside of the top so that would not wear well.

Oh and this is the Carver V. Main thing looked at was the interior volume and exterior dimensions. After 15% discount it was 46 dollars.

So I actually wound up buying a Scout as well, but returned it for an Everki Beacon. I love the style of the Scout bag, but wasn't really comfortable putting the G73 in the main compartment rather than a laptop compartment. My Everki bag is supposed to arrive tomorrow.. I'll post some pics as soon as it gets here, but from what I've seen it's more than large enough.
 
If you could post some pics or your impressions of the backpack, that would be great. We decided to keep the scout. Although, we will be buying another 17" laptop in the near future. The g73 will most likely be going to a new backpack .
 
unless you have lightweight 17inch messanger bag would be useless as it'll put stress on only one of your shoulder. might not be problem for those who has car but me walking almost half mile across campus it gets harder. also messanger bag suppose to curve around your thies, but with those laptop it won't happen making walking harder. (i'm shourt guy 5'6") trust me it gets harder. i would stick with backpack style bag for anything above 14inch on laptop.

Holds the G73 plus my work 15.6" laptop (Latitude D630) just fine. I travel internationally a lot, and this bag works like a champ.
I just put the G73 in the main compartment, and my work laptop in the secondary compartment. It is a snug fit however, maybe too snug for some. But I use a sleeve on my G73 as well while in the backpack.

Pretty cheap too, relatively, at $60

Haha, I must be the only guy who simply rolls with the damn thing in its original cardboard "briefcase".
 
subscribed, im hunting for the right backpack too.. i like the Targus style asus one and the alienware one. The one at Asus shop is out of stock.
 
i have the asus bag... and ill have to say the design is awesome... but the two shoulder straps have unstiched from the bottom of the bag.
 
Hate to hijack but wondering if any of you have found a decent alternative to the huge power adapter that comes with the g73?

That alone increases the weight and makes it hard to pack thus cutting down on options.

The Dell XPS 17", The Everki Beacon, and the Targus 17" XL

Of the three, I prefer the Beacon because I think it offers better protection compared to the Targus, and holds nearly as much. The Dell is HUGE. The Beacon is the most compact of the three, and can fold open completely, making it Airport Friendly for inspection.
