Doing some research on how the different H55 ITX sockets are aligned to get an idea of how heatsinks will fit.

Here are is an overlay of the Zotac H55, ECS H55 and Intel H57 ITX boards with socket holes labeled. Below are links to individual comparisons.

Here is the Zotac H55 compared to the (horizontally flipped) Zotac 9300 to compare the closest-edge heatsink clearance. The numbers are rough estimates from pixel counting on these images. Also the actual socket on the H55 is probably a few mm more than that from the edge b/c of the hole spacing difference 775/1156 (See below)

Seems that the zotac H55 has the most 'central' socket placement notice the memory slots are not right at the top of the board as in the ECS and Intel) , and that it is about 10mm farther from the nearest side edge than the 9300. H50 is perfect for these kind of boards and sff builds.

I really wish that I could use the H50, but I travel by Domestic by air between Uni and home and would like to take a sff by carry-on scanning without them hating-on-me/Liquid on flights.

I might actually call them up and ask if I can take liquids on board
 
You could try. They've always made me throw out any liquids that were over 3.5oz
 
Heh, I live in NZ, domestics pretty lax w/ their rules. I forgot that I had a pocket knife in my bag, it was of a decent size and they never scanned my baggage.
 
I called up the airport and they weren't really sure about liquid cooling
Would the stock HSF from Intel work alright with an i5 750? Slighty downvolted in a SG05/6?
 
Thanks for the info Proneaux, I'm in a bit of a bind looking for a heatsink for this.

I too want to run this in an SG05, and have considered the H50, but I don't really want to go down the watercooling route. Fans are tried and true and will last forever imo. I'd go H50 if I knew the liquid would last for ~6 years without having to drill holes for refilling.

I don't want to overclock, I just want to run quiet, preferably fanless cpu-wise.

I'd be really interested to know which coolers can fit on this thing.

Btw, I want to run an i7 860, and Max 'height' clearance for CPU hsf in the SG05 is listed as 82mm.

I would like it if a GeminII s could fit on there (then I could fit a regular GeminII, same width), but I'm pretty sure it can't.

I think I read that maximum width is 110mm at best.

Thing is I don't have one so I can't know for certain, and noone seems to have a thread about aftermarket coolers for the H55-ITX except this one.

Yeah maybe the GeminII won't fit due the PCI slot.
 
I am using an extremely small and cramped case (M350) and this board made it a pain to set up a good heatsink location on it because of its proximity to the ram and pciex16 slot....That said. I ended up using the heatsink from the i5-750 Quad ...I CUT the fan section off...leaving only the ring/pin mount to keep the heatsink on the board and used an AMD 70mm x 70mm x 15mm 4 pin CPU fan.
 
It's probably been said, but it looks like the odd CPU socket placement is due to the onboard WiFi.

I've ended up going for the H50 (haven't put it together yet), but wish I'd been able to put in my GeminIIs.

I wonder why they didn't place the wireless card on the UNDERSIDE of the board, would've solved a lot of problems.
 
well the odd placement is certainly not because of the wifi. The Intel doesnt have wifi & the placement still sucks..

Due to placing the order for a Big Shruken before RMAing a Zotac g43 ITX & reordering the intel ITX I Will have the Big Shruken that I am fairly sure wont fit with a PCI Slot.. It will be getting RMA'd, but I will pull it out of the package & snap a few pics of it on the board before I Send it back..
 
Maybe NT06 evo can fit

depending on what kind of clearance you have for a big HSF. I am sure it would since the HeatSink is not centered around the cpu, but is off to one side.. What the problem may be though is that its Considerably taller at 82m high with no fan compared to the big SHURIKEN's 58mm.. I Dont remember what the exact is, but I think somewhere it was listed that there is like 86mm in the pc-q07.. That would mean no fan for the NT06
 
Is there a version of it compatible with LGA1156?

Edit: from silverstonetek.com: LGA1156/LGA1366 supported with serial number AS09160001 and after, but at 82mm it's still a bit too tall to fit into Lian-Li PC-Q07

Basically any CPU that goes over 1/4" past the stock mounting pins is going to be encroaching the PCI slot.

The TRUE would be aligned parallel to the GPU, If a slim-fan can fit between the GPU/TRUE that would be good but otherwise, a TRUE w/ a 120mm in PULL would have to be the compromise.

It should be fine as long as you dont have an issue with clearance above it. In the Lian Li PC-Q07 there is no way it would work. Not sure about the Sugo series though.

Its not being mounted any more then just sitting on it for those pics. I am Running a video card so it was a definite no go & I am using the stock cooler for now. But yes it did hang over the bottom edge by about 1/4 inch when it was centered on the CPU socket.
 
I have the intention of shuffling the psu arund in the sg05.

here's a photo that might help people figure what CPU cooler will fit on the Intel DH57JG if they're using a full height video card. The CPU socket is very close to the PCI-E slot so it's doubtful that any low profile cooler larger than 100mm would fit unless the fins/fan are off center from the base.

If you're referring to the one in the photo I posted, it's actually a modified tray out of an old Antec case I had. It's going into a custom case I'm building.
 
We really need a heatsink for boards with this layout, hopefully someone will test the NT06 soon
 
I'm looking to build an HTPC based on the new Gigabyte H55N-USB3 mini-itx board which has a similar layout to the boards shown in this post. The CPU socket is very close to the PCI-E slot as well which is very poor design. I have a Thermalright AXP-140 that I want to use. Does anybody know if this will work if a graphics card is installed? The cooler is off centre and it looks like it will work but I don't have exact measurements.
 
Not likely.. Only chance you have is if the heat pipes fit inbetween the CPU socket & the PCIE slot
 
Here's a pic of the heatsink. The distance from the center of the mounting screw to the edge of the heatpipes is 1.5cm. If the distance from the mounting hole to the PCI-E slot is just a little longer than that then it will work, I'm hoping.

Really sorry kazei. You might have to bend the heatpipes in a mm or 2. Not kidding

at the beginning of thread, the Zotac board had better-er distance.
width of board = 748px
width of board = 170mm

170/748 = 0.2272727272727272727272727...

distance from middle of screw-mount to edge of PCIe slot = 57px

57*0.22727 = 12.9mm

The gap is JUST too small. Maybe with some massaging.. it'll fit.
 
Kazei, I was thinking of trying AXP-140 with the Zotac H55 (in a Lian-Li PCQ07 case), but, unfortunately, my calculations agree with those of Yoy0YO ... and I don't think one can bend those heatpipes easily :(

I found a pic of the H55N-USB3 and I resized it to actual size. Well pretty close to it anyways. I measured the distance as 1.7cm :)

One problem though, on the back of the mobo there are components that get in the way of the 1156 backplate for the AXP-140 which means it won't sit flush with the board. *sigh*

Heheh, I actually pulled out my old plastic ruler and measured the photo on my screen and it wasnt 170x170 :p

I guess its the pixel-density difference.

This is good news for everybody who's picked up the h55 mITX boards w/ super crappy CPU placement.

I'm using 1280x1024 resolution which probably explains the size difference.

I might not even get that gigabyte board now since I'm not sure how to get around the backplate issue. It's kind of stupid of Gigabyte to put a chip at the back so close to the mount point.

Isn't the socket backplate (the piece of metal the board comes with) thicker than the chip? If that's the case, one can just add same thickness grommets and the tiny chips on the back are going to be safe ... no?

Anyway, I'll be installing my Zotac H55 (with stock cooler for now) today/tomorrow and might get some insight.
