Changing LCD display polarity

I seem to remember an article from a few years ago that showed how to reverse the light/dark on a LCD display by changing the polarizing film. Has anyone else seen this? Am I just forgetting things in my old age? If anyone has a link to an article or how-to on it I would greatly appreciate it.
