Hey guys I just bought one of these beastly overclockers and they're great. I haven't done too much testing as I just started messing around yesterday night, but here is what I was able to manage so far.

G3258 + MSI Z97 PC Mate and Corsair H55 @ 4.5 ghz w/ 1.195 Vcore

So far it's passed IBT using 10 passes on the Very High Ram usage and P95 stable for 4 hours using the In-Place Large FFTs Testing. I'll probably do longer P95 testing (12h+) later on. Temps have been around 68 C max and 65-66 C avg during IBT stressing after 15 minutes and maybe a few degrees less for P95 testing.

What kind of overclocks/settings are you using for your G3258s?

At the moment, no. My dad needed a comp ASAP and I just built this one and put it together pretty quickly for him to use. So he'll be using it from now. Maybe in the future when I buy another one of these chips I will delid that.

EDIT:
I actually forgot to mention that I have the H55 mounted in the rear exhaust of my case in a pull setup. The fan that arrives today will complete my push-pull and I'm hoping to get a few degrees cooler.
 
Yeah seems like I got a good chip. My dad was looking for a new system and I felt like building one on a budget and there it was at microcenter for $100, cpu and mobo.
 
I'm over clocking mine as we speak..Not having the best luck. Won't go over 4.4ghz tried up to 1.295v and wouldn't boot into windows. 4.4 I'm slowly lowering the clock to see how low I can go and keep it stable. I still can't complain to much about 4.4 though is a 37% OC lol I'm cooling mine with an old H50 I had laying around. Using a MSI z87-g45 MB.

Not that I know the first thing about overclocking Haswell, but could the other settings need to be adjusted? cache, and uhh... loop? or something. I haven't had the chance to play with it myself yet
 
Are there any non z87 mobos out now that OC the CPU? I read somewhere that some manufacture was releasing something.

From what I have been noticing around the web is that the non-z97 boards are having a harder time breaking the 4.4 barrier.
 
Yea messed with it a bit. Still stuck at 4.4ghz@1.225v doesn't break 58c. So far 5 hours OCCT stable. Memory@2000mghz so not bad.

Unless they specifically say it can overclock pentium then they won't work. From what i've seen on other forums mobos which can overclock i5/i7 that aren't Z97 don't work with pentiums yet.

Shouldnt have a problem trying to OC with a z87 board though, right(GA-Z87X-D3H)? Im ok without breaking 4.4.

Yeah I've had a tough time with my H81, B85 mobos. Waiting on my Z97 RMA to see what I can get.
 
I'm at 4.5 ghz on a Gigabyte GA-H81M-HD3 with a Seidon 120v. I couldn't OC until Bios F6 was released this week. No stability issues at 4.5ghz, couldn't boot to Windows at 4.6ghz.

Sorry late reply!

You are going to have to reference check your BIOS version with GA to see if it can OC the Haswell chip or if they plan on releasing a version that can OC the chip. I think your board does have the BIOS release though.
 
I got one for fun but results are pretty bad:

4300 Mhz at 1,32V (maybe bit less haven't checked yet)
4400 at 1,38 (haven't checked anything in beetween)

At least Phanteks is doing nicely and I get 72 degrees max in Prime 95 at 1,38V :D

Talk about a nightmare, I love that motherboard too. For the options you get and the price its so hard to beat.
 
Did I get bad G3258 for OC or am I missing something?

Not sure the exact ram but its Corsair 1600

I need to do one more test but this is all I can get so far:

3.8 ghz at 1.15v. Temps are fine but at 3.9 ghz I cant boot into windows. I've raised voltage all the way up to 1.3v but still cant boot at 3.9 ghz.

I need to test if 3.8 ghz works at stock voltage, or whatever auto is, I guess thats not really stock?

Is it worth it to try a different G3258 or could it perhaps be my mobo that is limiting me?
 
Something must be wrong - it's impossible to get so bad chip. And going 1,15 to 1,3 must give at least tiny bit of oc headroom.
 
The Z87 should be limiting but not that much. I would consider resetting bios settings and looking on the net to see if anyone else has used your board with the same cpu.
 
I played with the settings in bios some more:

VRIN: normal
VRIN override: 1.73
Vcore: 1.225
Ring: 1.125
Uncore Freq 39

This allowed me to get to 4.4ghz. I can do 4.5 at 1.25v. Not sure if I'll go any further because the cpu fan is getting kind of loud.

Anyone managed to use an Asus H97 setup with one of these? They apparently support overclocking now. I'd be curious to see how it goes.
That's probably sub $200 for board and CPU in the right stores.

I have an Asus H97I-Plus hopefully coming in this weekend. If it does, I'll see what I can get out of this chip+mobo setup, after the BIOS update, of course.
 
Looks like I may beat you, I caved in and ordered it tonight, I'll pick it up and have it running in about 16 hours - I'll try to update the thread, fingers crossed.
If it only does stock for some reason, I'm sure I'll get over it - it's more XBMC / Steam Streaming than anything - actual game playing isn't a huge necessity (but it'd be nice)
 
Got mine a couple weeks ago. Running on a gigabyte z97n-wifi mini ITX. Not a huge selection of OC'ing and voltage options but my chip is running at 4.5ghz on the stock HSF with voltages set to auto, looks like its putting them around 1.2v. RAM is set to 1866 at 1.35v
 
it really doesn't make that much noise. It might not be the best cooler, its not a lot of metal, but I've always been satisfied with the noise level
 
Mine is here, has been but my memory and SSD package must of gotten lost :(

I'm not sure if my OC counts as "high" but I'm using 2x4GB of the famous samsung low profile magic ram
 
I thought my system was ok but I've been getting more and more BSODs. Its unusual because I can use Handbrake for an hour straight, play a game, etc, and then when I leave the system idle for a while and come back I see the BSOD. Other times it will happen when I'm just doing simple web browsing. So far I haven't had a BSOD when the system is stressed but I didnt do a proper stress test.

Here are my settings on a Gigabyte GA-Z87M-D3H

cpu multiplier 45
VRIN normal
VRIN override 1.75v
Vcore 1.25v
Ring 1.15v
uncore 39
RAM is at 1600

Do I need to bump everything up a bit or is there a small tweak I can make to fix the BSODs?
