Wasn't this news like a year old and later debunked? Why is it resurfacing again? "Game shops have been told" isn't exactly evidence, unless there is some kind of proof.
It's not the same as a laser pointer, as Steve suggested. 2 IR LED's on the sensor + 1 IR LED on the remote = triangulation. A single laser pointer is essentially a light, which changes in shape and size as it is moved, and can't be erroneously compared to this particular tech. According to IGN...
Oh you're right. People will have to re-learn how to control. But the same thing happened when Nintendo brought out the d-pad. The same thing happened when Mario 64 introduced most of us to an analog stick (that skill didn't come instantaneously). The same thing is going to happen with the...
I knew somebody would say it in this thread... lol. Though I don't think I'd pay $40 for a game of virtual table tennis, even on the Wii. The rudimentary table tennis that will eventually be included in the Wii Sports pack will have to do. Still, good for Rockstar for branching out - but don't...
Progress is much slower than you think - I know people that HATE widescreen, for instance. A lot of people over 30... some who own widescreen TVs also hate how whenever they watch TV, either their shows are stretched to hell, or 1/3 of their screen isn't getting used. It's annoying, I agree...
Didn't we finish with the 3D space thing in another thread? I'll just ignore it, plain and simple. What I will comment on is the whole gamepad vs KB+M argument. While I've used Gamepads for tons of first person games (and don't like it, but can still do it) it can't and won't ever be as accurate...
Thing is, Nullo, we're in the minority. Most people are still using RF or composite-only colour TVs circa 1987. Many many people don't have $500+ to spend on an HD TV, let alone $1200 for a half-decent one. I know people that, when their 27" CRT breaks, they go to walmart and get another $250...
Anyone remember that the final product will have adjustable sensitivity? And of course it will be calibrated upon turning on the system, to any size TV. I'm not suggesting that you play it on a 13" tube (that would be dumb lol) but if you search the 'net you will find Ubisoft and others demoing...

New vid posted of Mario and one of the new Wii-pointer game mechanics (involving floating through space, of course). This was shot in HD, and the game still looks quite pretty.
I don't think that I've seen any screenshots that haven't been 480p 16x9. I could be wrong, but I think, unlike the Gamecube, >95% of the titles on the Wii will be 480p 16x9. Nintendo isn't mandating it, but themselves, as well as most developers, have realized that widescreen is the way of the...
I'm going to wait it out completely until there is a single format and a single player. Upscaled DVD and digital distribution is fine and dandy with me until somebody wins. When companies do these kinds of things, nobody wins (especially the consumers) :)
Until 6-12 months into the whole thing. Think DS - same thing happened. In fact, in the case of Red Steel, since it's one of Ubisoft's most prominent teams I have faith that they just may correct the problems.
Wii games don't look quite as good as XBox 360 games. But XBox 360 games don't look quite as good as my PC. It's all relative, either way. Apples to oranges to bananas in my book. Regardless, Miyamoto does have a point when he says that in order to get the full PS3/360 experience, you need an...
It looks better, but not infinately better. As much as there is no replacement for raw power in any case (in this case, the Wii has less than the 360) you have to admit, Shiggy makes a decent point. HD penetration won't be anywhere near 75% for at least another 4 years. Games don't look nearly...
Nope, it involved hitting one of the switches that make stairs appear, and VERY quickly backtracking to a hidden door that also appeared with the switch. I just re-did it yesterday. Try it, it's in the ghost house ;)
*continue off-topic* It was originally meant as a Gamecube peripheral to go with the new Mario game, actually... the problem that Nintendo saw is that
a) there was more latency with the Gamecube, according to some reports, because the hardware wasn't quite up to snuff with handling the...
Nobody did, but it's just pure speculation on many people's parts. A 2-SKU thing seems popular nowadays... though unlike Sony you get the same base hardware in this case. Speculation has suggested that there will be a bundled version of the Wii that includes 2 Wii+chuk controllers, virtual...
The launch is probably 4-6 months away, realistically. Didn't Microsoft wait a while to reveal the price too (they certainly didn't do it at E3 last year)? It's Sony that revealed them early, and certainly shocked a lot of people... I think Nintendo may be waiting to see if Microsoft drops the...
These controllers are being made in a way (supposedly, according to Nintendo) that is just as affordable as previous-gen controllers (gamepads), so the cost of that is not going to skyrocket enough to impact system price. Also, instead of using bleeding-edge tech that's necessary to run games in...
Do the games render at 1080i or are they upscaled? The only way that it truly be found out is a dev kit that can do a framebuffer capture, I guess (the same way they found out that PGR3 is upscaled to 720p). Regardless, either way is HD beauty, it would just be an interesting thing to find out.
Some new info from IGN:
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/709/709614p1.html
- All screenshots we have seen thus far come from the Wii version.
- The story is "as simple as possible ... it's very cliché and ludicrous ... like Mars Attacks or some Monty Python movies."
- Ancel...
I also like the part where Miyamoto talks about Virtual Console games being played on the DS. That's something that they SHOULD'VE brought up during their E3 conference.
Just a warning to yourself and NulloModo - while the PS2 was 99% backwards compatible with the PS1 due to hardware inside the PS2, the PS3 will be using similar software emulation for both the PS1 and the PS2 to keep cost/size down. This is the exact same method as what the X360 is using, so to...
In some new interviews unearthed this week (one of them from my very own Toronto Sun), a few interesting nuggets appeared. Links:

Only problem is that firewire (the original spec) has a 400mbps sustained transfer rate. USB2 has a 480mbps BURST rate. The sustained rate is slower. Either way it's probably enough for compressed video. And Junehan, if you click the top link, you will see a "hands on" with the HDMI-less HD-DVD...
Supposed Japanese devs said a while back that they use that upscaling technique as well, but I think the X360 does just fine at 720p, and that most games will upscale from there.
I'm not sure that's what he meant. The console has the capability to render at 1080i, of course... but many of the games would choke (frame-rate wise) at that resolution, wouldn't they? Not even the PS3 can handle very many "next gen" games at 1080, despite the tiny advantage in power it has...
Karafias... you're forgetting about the strafing thing. You still can't do everything as well with a gamepad that you can with a kb+m without cranking sensitivity way too high to play. Gordon + energy gun + circle-strafing = hard time for master chief? :)
Just out of curiousity, where/when did you get your hands-on and why didn't you post about it? A lot of us would love to know! In this thread, you've only given the impression that you've spoken to people higher up in the industry, but not that you've actually been to E3 and gotten hands-on time...
I have a Wii /end utter sarcasm lol
Actually it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo was demoing this thing, they've been doing it for the press for months. That said, it IS a friend, they like to brag :)
540p is still better quality than non-upscaled DVD, granted, so you'll still get just over 3 years of hi-def content from all studios. But beyond that, they literally do hold keys to the magic switch, and you'd better believe that many of them are going to use it, whether it be at midnight on...
