Actually, xgl is an xserver architecture layered on top of opengl. Think windows vista's aero but way more useful in my opinion. For example, say you are using a 3d modeling application. You can stretch the application across 2 sides of the desktop cube, with the tools on one side, and your...
On the same note, here are a couple of screens demonstrating xgl on my suse 10.1 installation:
The infamous desktop cube and transparency:
The wavy windows:
And the ever useful zoom feature:
Alot of it is editing ini or cfg files but you would be surprised how many older games actually support widescreen resolutions. Check out http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/ for more information on getting games to run in widescreen.
Theres no reason the xbox 360 should look better than anything on a high end pc. The only reason developers are holding back on the pc is because there are people that cannot afford high end stuff, yet still want to play the games.
I dont think the firemv is a gaming card so much as it is a workstation card. Game performance would be horrible. All of the low-profile video cards I have seen are AGP, you might have a difficult time tracking down a decent pci-e one.
Problem solved. For some reason, my memory isnt as good an overclocker on my dfi lanparty socket 939 as it was on my msi k8n socket 754. The max I have gotten it to run is 210mhz. I'm now rock steady w/ 315 fsb 8x multiplier and a ram divider set to limit my memory to 210 mhz. Thanks for your...
sabrina, Im assuming switching to ati solved your problem? Also, upon checking my psu in everest, the 12 volt rail reads 11.78 constantly. I think I might try a friends psu later.
Update: out of morbid curiosity I lowered my htt to 2x and my ram divider to 100. I no longer experience...
I ran driver cleaner and updated to the latest 81.95 drivers but I am still getting the nv4_disp/ graphical corruption errors when I oc. I am going to try running older drivers once before I just sell this damn card and buy an x1800xl. I refuse to put up with this shit.
I ran 4 tests of prime95 (I really dont have time to run it for like 3 hours) and it came up with no errors. I know this isnt a memory problem as this memory worked flawlessly in my 754 system at the exact same speed. I've even lowered the divider a bit more but still got the exact same...
It still does it after bumping the vcore to 2.8. I get the same lockup/bsod I did before. I also tested my other games and they produced pretty much the same results (graphical glitches). I also gave rthdribl a try and it did lock up windows for a bit, but it would then keep going after a few...
When I try overclocking my cpu to 2.43 ghz (270 fsb, 9x multi, 1.42 vcore, 166 memory divider, and 4x htt multiplier) I can boot into windows and use it perfectly. However, when I go to play Call of Duty 2, the game will run for maybe a couple of seconds with some graphical corruption and...
If I'm not mistaken, its right click on a vacant area of the quick launch bar, go to view and then large Icons
PS - Make sure you unlock the taskbar first.
Us FW900 users would beg to differ :D.
I was using this wallpaper I made for a while before I got bored of it:

and I am currently using this one:

DHL has a habit of throwing packages. I remember when my mom told me that my monitor came, the delivery guy pretty much threw the package onto our porch and drove off. Thank god this thing was packaged so well.
If you're willing to buy a refurb then this is a great monitor:

I've used it a couple times at work and they're pretty sweet, just my personal opinion though.
This is 100% correct, the card in question only has 12 pipes. I know because a friend of mine actually purchased this card and checked it out in rivatuner and everest. I dont know why the hell newegg or pny havent caught this one yet.
I got my HP one on friday and I love it so far. The screen is absolutely perfect and there are no scratches. However, the text is a little blurry compared to my older monitor, but only around the edges (where the dot pitch is.27)
It really sucks how so many hardware manufacturers either refuse to put out linux drivers or completely half-ass them. The linux community may make up a small percentage of pc users, but how hard could it possibly be to release at least a decent set of drivers? At least graphics card companies...
