Many things could be responsible. First thing I would replace would be the power supply as a wonky PSU can kill fragile hardware. You may also have bad power from the wall. at 20x it wasn't stable long, so I backed it down to 19x and pumped up the qpi to 210 and it has been a rock every since.

I'd be buying the chip new from the Egg, $5xx but selling my 6 month old 940 for about 300 which is what I paid for it. Hence the 200 for the new chip. But I already orded the parts and the 940 wasnt on the list. sigh
