Hi,
Im thinking of upgrading to an 805, like i have been for a while (that toms article with the good ocing is pushing me over the edge)... however i have an agp 9800pro, and am on a budget.
I play CS:S ocasionally and not much else, but i like the constant 75fps im getting from my amd...
OK ... forgot to check my thread... lol anyways, i like the idea of pinmodding a pentiumm, and that will still give me more battery life than a celeronm 1.4...
I currently have an AGP FX5200, and i am so frustrated with its crappiness.
I used to have a 9700pro that i put a new heatsink on and voltmodded it to 1.9vcore and overclocked it to 460/360 (outperformed 9800pros). That lasted a little over a year then started artifacting all the time.

I am purchasing my friends Inspiron 6000 when he goes to basic training.
It currently has a Celeron 1.4 and 2x256 DDR2.
It has a 915 chipset, so im planning on upgrading the CPU and the ram.
Im just curious how much more performance i would see from a Pentiumm instead of a Celeronm...
If you want to take advantage of the second core, i believe you need to reinstall. Windows installs a HAL when you install it, and when you installed it with your single core it installed a single proc HAL.
You will need to Repair your installation, or Reinstall it in order to take advantage...
i know this is an amd forum, but does she need an a64?
i think for an application such as this, a cheap HT p4 would be best, windows <3 hyperthreading.
except not..
the 3800 and 4200 have 512k/core cache.
the 170 has 1mb/core cache.
If you overclock, well worth the $$ saved from the 4400, and much better than the 3800.
I used this for about a year, worked great the whole time, ran it at 1.5-2-2-5 200mhz w/my a64 and 2-2-2-5 w/my p4. Runs in Dual Channel just fine.
For Sale: $50 shipped
Things i want for it:
Videocard: 9700/nvidia equivalent
Power Supply: ~400w or more, of a name brand that has been provent...
i would go with the 8ms flat panel, simply because 21ms will give you a ton of ghosting in games which i gaurantee you will see.
you probably wont see any ghosting with 16ms and under, and i KNOW that you wont see any ghosting with 12ms and under.
on the vga vs dvi note, i dont really see...
Its important for everyone to understand what a "flop" is; A "flop" is a floating point calculation, and incase your not familiar with what a floating point is, it is a number with a decimal place somewhere in it. If i remember back to my C/C++ classes, a floating point (refered to as a 'float')...
Im definetly not that brave, maybe once i upgrade to some DC, ill unlid my 3000, but as of right now, i cant afford to lose it.
Its cool enough anyways ;)
Good deal on the wrt54g, cheapest on amazon is like $66+ship!
so BUMP!!
Also check out http://www.openwrt.org/ if you like linux, i have two wrt54g's running openwrt its awesome.
I know the owner of the business personally, great to do business with. An Honest Man!
If you live in Oregon, and dont want to pay shipping (I am cheap and want it NOW!!!), mark it for lay away then drive out to clackamas and pick it up!
craigslist is good, yes!
However if your trying to sell anything dont expect what its actually worth, especially in my area (http://portland.craigslist.org/) its just full of lowballer's.
Anyways, ive gotten 3 different jobs in under a year off of it, so its good for other things too.
HT is the one thing I am really missing from my 2.8C to my 3000+.
However, even at stock speeds, it was worlds faster in games. On my p4 i go ~60fps average on cs:s and when i switched to my AMD i turned on vsync and my fps never dropped below 75 even in full 32 player servers.
Finally, i...
AMD's website says the 165's (dual core 1mb l2/core) are going for $278, however the cheapest one is like $450 on pricewatch...
Does anyone know if this price for the 165's is acurate, and if so where can i get one at that price to replace my 3000 winnie?
i would get a 3000 venice if you plan to overclock, or a 3200 venice if not.
when i went from my 2.8c to my 3000 i noticed a huge difference in cpu intensive games such as hl2.
my 3000 oc's to 2.7, but i run it at 2.4 because that seriouly is like a 3.8ghz p4 or better.
bottom line-...
I have been charged with purchasing a 24 port Layer 2 Managed switch at my work. I am the linux server admin, so i understand what that is, however i have hard very little first hand experience with that type of networking equipment.
We had decided on a 3com 4400, however when i called a...
