I wish I actually had more hours at my summer job before heading back to college, then I could actually afford an 8800GTS.
If it helps at all my price ceiling is at about $200. That is unless I could sell my 6800GT...hmmm.
If having my specs help, I have:
AMD Athlon64 X2 4600+ AM2
2GB of OCZ Platinum XTC DDR2-800 RAM
Aerocool ZeroDBA 620w PSU
Samsung SyncMaster 940B 19" LCD Monitor
(That should be enough to figure out which video card would suit me best I would think)
Any links to reviews pitting the 8600GTS...
Is there a big performance difference between the 256mb and 512mb versions of X1950pro?
I'm thinking I'm going to buy one of these bad boys, as I don't really have the money for a 8800GTS. Right now I only have a 19" Samsung 940B which runs at 1280x1024.
My 6800GT is starting to show its age, so I would like to upgrade it. Unfortunately with my current summer job I'm not getting very many hours so money is a little tight. Would the 8600GTS be a worthwhile upgrade over my current card, or should I just hold out for something else. $150 is nice...
I was just curious as to what the situation was currently with Linux and recording/tuning HD? I know CableCARD is the only real way to do it, but if I remember correctly these only work on Windows. Also wasn't there some nonsense about CableLabs having to certify the device you are using it...
Sorta related, but I've started to stay away from Asus after they screwed me on my Z71V laptop. The laptop had a pretty common problem with its battery being defective, and my first one did fail. They replaced the first, but the second time it happened they refused to replace claiming the...
If anyone has the resources to stand up to the music industry, it's Microsoft. It'd be nice for once if Microsoft did stand up for it's customers. I think they'd surprise a lot of people if they did stand up to the recording industry. They might woo over some hardcore windows haters too.
I like the "Gaming Card" idea as well. That thing'll be a monsterous card though. As for the article, the ray tracing looks pretty awesome, but it's too bad the industry doesn't seem to be headed that way any time soon.

I don't know why you'd rather not have an FM tuner, I think it's a great addition and something the ipod has been missing for quite a while (not like it'd be that hard to include). Voice recording I don't really care though.
But if anyone is complaining because the Zune doesn't have organizer...
The Zune software does convert videos for you but I'm not sure of the formats it supports. I know it can do MP4.
Does anyone know of a good way to rip video for use on the Zune? If tried one of those Zune-specific dvd rippers but it was awful and every dvd I ripped had out of sync audio. Am I...
Definitely consider trying MythTV. It is very easy to set up with Ubuntu, I have a dedicated box for it and it is awesome.

I would definitely recommending ripping and reencoding to H.264 or similar (H.264 is great for HD). Unless of course you really want the menus that badly. It'll save you plenty of space and still look great. Doom9.net is a good place to start for information and tutorials.
Any of the Cooler Master Stackers is a safe bet. I have a Stacker T01 which has been awesome for me, though I'm trying to sell it now because the size is too much of a hassle for me being a college student.
So after receiving my Christmas money and giftcards I have enough to get a new mp3 player. Right now I'm stuck between these three, the Zune, the 30gig Ipod Video, and the 30gig Zen Vision:M. I'm kinda stuck buying from Best Buy too as I have $75 in gift cards there. Currently there's a deal on...
All items here can be shipped by any method you want, as the shipping store I use has everything available. And of course, you pay for shipping. I am open to negotiation so please feel free to pm me if you feel a price is too high. Sorry if the images are too big in full view, I just left them...
Currently I have a Cooler Master Stacker (the original, T01 I think is the number). But I'm in college so I find myself having to move it frequently, for breaks and LANs we have at school. I love the case design, but it's size and weight makes it a pain in the ass for me.
I was just wondering...
I've got a silver one that's in pretty good condition, just has a small nick on one side from dragging it to a LAN (Yeah I know, bringing a Stacker to a LAN is pretty dumb, that's why I want to get a lighter/smaller case). I'll take some pictures and post em up on here in a little while. I was...
