I have a Gigabyte motherboard, the capicitators are so close to the socket its hard even to fit the stock fan in. Is your Epox having any trouble with that?

I think it's your monitor. How old is your one? Because all recent monitor have auto-adjust.

ClearFont/type should set it correctly. The clarity in my old 17' CRT is no much for my LCD.

You can always throw the SATA in to someone else's PC and do it. It's crude but it's effective.

I dont know your pricing range, but I recommend what I got. I am using the Coolermaster Jet 7 turbine. It's not very quiet it spreads air really good, even cools other parts of my case, (I got a slim case)
