I found it to be fun running through with a friend in co-op. That said, multiplayer is kinda buggy, and it uses garbage for windows live. Those are my biggest issues with it.

Generally the only titles that are sold elsewhere that activate on steam are steamworks titles. Matters not if steam sells it too. If its a non-steamworks title and you want it on steam, it must be bought on steam. Here's a list that shows steamworks titles for future reference...

Picked one of these up at my BB a month back for $30. I use it on my 2500k and it is way better than stock. Very satisfied in that regard. Installation was not nearly as complicated as people whined. If you do pick this up though make sure it will actually fit in your case, mine required...

I've been using Steam Mover myself for a while now without any problems. Works great. From what I can see its pretty much the same as Steam Tool, so take your pick. Wish Steam would integrate this natively so we don't have to use other tools, but ehh I guess this works.
