oh look, it's amateur hour again..
Credit Card Authorization Form: "You do not have access to this page!"
appreciate they are trying to get this resolved quickly, but their IT guys need to be sacked. same with the IT jokers at my current and previous employer. no accountability...
i found a sticker on the motherboard with some numbers, but apparently that wasn't the serial as they wouldn't accept it on the form. have to check the box when i get home.
so, what are they going to do with the boards we send back? seems like a waste if they have to scrap them. aside from...
thanks for the guide. followed all of OP's instructions and i get 4.8ghz at 1.425v (p95 stable) which is right in line with given expectations. i had been running it at 4.6 with just minor adjustments in AI Suite.
it can do 5.0 on the desktop but not in p95 and i don't want to push a higher...
i picked up one of these from Microcenter to go along with a 2500k, for $30 it works above expectations. keeps cpu in mid 70's C at 4.8ghz, under load (p95). unless you plan on running it at 5+ghz full time then the 212+ should be sufficient.
Q: is 8GB enough RAM to turn off pagefile.sys without causing system instability? i've already done it, and it's working fine for me but i don't know how this will affect things over the long run, if at all. i'd hate to start trusting it and then get an out-of-memory BSOD right in the middle of...
i asked that question a few minutes ago. was told you can't mix-n-match. if you want to use a dedicated card for physX, system must have an nVidia GPU in primary slot. if your main GPU is ATi or other, it renders physX in CPU with much lower detail.
i know nVidia does this to give their own...
for that, i'm thinking a modern SSD would help more than a new processor.
most of the boxes at work have low end C2D chips, but they seem infinitely slower due to the 5200rpm HDDs (and 9000 layers of security). drives me nuts now that i'm used to SSDs at home.
i always want to get a modular PSU up until the point where i start shopping for one, then it's hard to justify the +50% markup for something i deal with so infrequently.
next time, surely... next time
same problem with my 750W corsair. constant clicky fan noise indicating its off-balance. annoying, but i'm not going to bother with RMA just for that. also voided warrantee when i took it apart to try and right the fan (warning sticker over fan screws). i'll replace the fan myself one of these...
some more results... (system spec in sig)
4.5ghz with the Auto-OC app (105x43), sets vcore at 1.2v
4.6ghz (100x46) at 1.22v, mid 50c
4.8ghz (100x48) at 1.35v, 60-70c
5.0ghz (100x50) at 1.42v, 80c+
each good for a 10 min on P95 blended. i'm not concerned about longer testing.
Note, actual...
does nVidia still require that your main GPU be one of their brand, if you want to use a dedicated physX card? I recall they restricted its use at one point to exclude ATi.
