Dirt isn't my thing, but there is a vocal contingent on iRacing that does lobby for off-track excursions (on purpose) so keep your eyes open there.
I do want to counter the idea that sim racing isn't enjoyable or that one can't compete until one has put months into it. I won my first iRace...
I can't disagree more with Oka and T2K.
Let me start with cost/benefit. The initial three-month sub is $15 at the moment; I can't recommend less than a "season" worth as this isn't something you just pick up and master instantly (unless you're already racing in real life, or your last name is...
Hey, that's what sold me; and since it's at least as smooth as 7 was, with meaningful under-the-hood upgrades, I'm happy with 8.1.
I am disappointed that I can't use memory mapped files when coding a 'metro' app, but considering those need to run on RT tablets, oh well.
This and the turret comment above it are on the right track. White, cubical, with orange light in either Aperture Science or heart-shaped LEDs on the sides, and it's a win.
This is some sort of wish sandwich ... led in the middle, white on the outside, and I wish it looked better.
It's all in the content.
I can do a 2.5 hour race in iRacing in 3d and be comfortable all the way through.
However, the typical TV commercial and many shows shift viewpoints constantly. That would be painful in 3d.
As I noted on another forum when ESPN3D made its announcement, any tech...
I don't think you're right. Steps 27-33 (pp.21-27) show a location for the two shelves. However, I've seen this in the store with shelves in different positions than in the above photos, and the instructions seem pretty clear that you could slot the shelves into any of the spaces.
The desk...
Yea, BB really lost out there, $65k in profit lost vs. how much in accessories sold and general good will gained by consumers able to buy the product they wanted?
3d on cable and satellite:
Comcast: 2 channels
DirecTV: 4 channels
Dish: 0 channels (on-demand/rent only)
This was the state of HDTV for a few years after HDTVs first became available; a very few channels, all with recycled content. Even now, OTA, cable and sat are still showing us 720p...
I do most of my gaming in 3d Vision now, so playable framerates at 1920x1080 take a little extra horsepower compared to my old 1440x900 2d experience.
The ASUS GeForce GTX 660Ti is efficient, fast, and a lot quieter than my old GTS 250 by another manufacturer.
These features will make...
Not any more, apparently.
"Promo code: gamer$
20.00 off pre-orders valid until 12:00AM 2/14/2012"
They also have the 2410T for $199 refurb, which is where I'd go if I just wanted 120hz and not 3d. Yea, the 2420T/TX is better but $200 price differential for 2d/120hz only, no question...
I didn't see you buying me a copy in April at full release price :D and since I had too many things to do all year, and knew it'd be along for the Christmas sale, I waited.
That's just the limitation of passive; the polarizing filter only works in a (roughly) 15 degree angle vertically. Owners of the Zalman passive screen report the same.
For TV viewing I don't think it's a big problem because you're 6+ feet away and so 15 degrees covers normal shifting about.
The only 27" 120hz DVI (and HDMI 1.4) monitor is the Acer HN274H. IR emitter for 3d is embedded in the bezel. Those looking only for 120hz will essentially be paying for a 3d kit they don't want, but there is a 27" 120hz monitor.
Acer also makes a GN245HQ with the same specs as this...
Yes. Get a 120hz input-capable projector (e.g., Acer H5360 DLP, there are others) and use that instead of a TV for a screen that size.
The picture will be better and refresh cleanly and if you later decide you want to try racing in 3d, you'll be ready.
(e.g...
TFTPanels has some good input lag tests on various 120hz monitors. For FPS gaming you may find the 16:10 vs. 16:9 display width ratio relevant.
The 1st gen 120hz panels are a bit cheaper, so define 'budget' for yourself.
That's odd, CW. TFT Central declared the Viewsonic good for colors (for a TN).
The BenQ calibrated OK as well but is apparently terrible out of the box as it's set to some sort of 'gaming' mode which I wouldn't want to game or do anything else with.
For S3D use my own wariness on the...
Look for monitors with a 1.4 HDMI port (VG236HE has a 1.3 HDMI port). You can even choose a passive display if you don't like active-shutter glasses (and don't mind half-rez).
I don't know of any EMF tests done on the subject.
Before buying a 120hz panel just for the 120hz refresh and to reduce ghosting in 2d mode, or before returning one you've already bought :) check the digitalversus and tftcentral reviews, which often include calibration settings and results.
Some monitor modes can be turned on (or off!) to...
Nvidia 3d settings can be changed in-game through customizable key combinations.
Rather than drop a large image here I'll just link to one I found on Bjorn3d using a quick search: http://www.bjorn3d.com/Material/revimages/video/3D_Glasses/Advanced_adjustments.jpg
I've only used anaglyph...
TrackIR 5 is 640x480 at 120fps. However, Kinect presumably won't really need to have the user wear reflective hats or headphone clip-on dots for best accuracy and 6 degree of freedom tracking, since it should 'see' the whole head.
Source: TrackIR - Wikipedia, the free...
You've got it exactly, but it only works with close proximity, sufficient speed to make air resistance a meaningful part of the equation, and only works well on straight or gently curved roads.
For normal drivers, driving that close manually on the freeway is a recipe for disaster; if truck...
Nor is there ghosting on DLP (TVs, as in the Mitsubishis or projectors) ... and behold, the displays people see in the theatres are what?
I think the [H] posters are just mad that it doesn't help them fragmore in the latest FPS. :D That's the genre that's (IMO) least enhanced by 3d, at least...
All [H] readers should love Antec because they're much Kühler then any other brand. Any CPU cooler with an umlaut is automatically brutal and metal.
Kittens should not reside in Antec cases because hair is bad for computer parts :D
This is the normal cycle of gaming.
When a (or several) console is new, generally its static hardware setup provides superior price/performance to PCs; as the console userbase grows, news articles appear touting the age of the console and the death of PC gaming.
As the consoles remain...
It seems a bit more intuitive than TrackIR for gaming!
I wouldn't want to aim using it (unless I'm flying a helo sim where that's exactly what the real pilot does) but it would be 100% perfect for racing and flight sims where the viewpoint needs to change as I look around.
It would...
I take it everyone's not EN-Vous?
"The 3.2 kWh battery allows the EN-V to travel about 25 miles on a single charge and can reach speeds of between 25 and 30 mph."
This is obviously not intended to go on the interstates :) Hell, my 108cc commuter scoot can double that speed and parks more...
I use Twitter, but I rarely tweet. Mostly I use the service to subscribe to updates on organizations, services, and games I'm interested in. I *don't* subscribe or 'follow' many individuals.
This serves me well in the same sense an RSS feed would but more tersely.
I think they were at least trying to avoid Allstate's bungle with the "I'm a teen driver so I'm entitled to be staring at my phone and running into things" meme.
They are obviously not marketing to the people who already bought a smartphone, but to the rest of everyone who's looked at...
