Hi everyone,
I'm off to medical school next week and need to offload some hardware. To start:
Visiontek 7970 3GB Reference card with box and accessories SOLD
-- I registered this card when I got it, so it comes with the full manufacturer's warranty. However, Visiontek doesn't allow for...
I've had those cutscene dips on both my 7970 and on two 6970s. The culprit seems to be cinematic depth of field, which, if disabled, makes the problem go away entirely. Irritating, but not a huge IQ loss thankfully.
The 7870M looks like a fantastic card for its power draw, just slightly under the 675M in terms of performance but at about half the wattage -- if the benchmarks on AMD's slides are to be believed. Nvidia's lineup is just plain weird: the 660M is nothing more than an overclocked 650M (DDR5...
Crossfire drivers will probably continue to improve over the next few months, as AMD has time to work on the relatively small backlog of games that have been released after the holiday season. However, come September, I predict many late and broken crossfire driver releases as the driver team...
Not at all. I average 50-60 FPS at that resolution, but I don't have AA enabled. The only time I drop down to 35 or so is when I look at the entire map from a vantage point, say on Karkland. Is that the type of place you're talking about? With MSAA, 25 FPS would make sense.
What's your GPU...
Can somewhat explain to me what the hell is going on in that bottom picture? It looks like the card is becoming sentient and waving at us with its new arms...
I have no clue what resolution or games you're running.
Based on my own experience going from dual 6970s to one 7970 @ 1440p, yeah, the transition to a single card is very much worth it. And almost a free "upgrade" after you sell the 6970s.
No doubt that the 680 is a fantastic card, but it doesn't seem like switching over from an overclocked 7970 is any sort of upgrade -- even when both cards are overclocked:

Unless AMD drivers are...
That graph from the 7970 review is done without AA and gets an average of 97 FPS, while the 680 review graph shows 95 FPS without AA (both for the 7970, obviously). I don't see an increase; both results are well within a margin of error. It's possible that the new drivers haven't contributed...
It's true; who knows when the 28nm mobile parts will be widely available. I'm hoping by July, but if it's Q3 then I may be out of luck. I definitely plan to keep my desktop for work and play. The laptop is primarily for school, but ideally it would be able to play games on low/medium for...
Lol, what the hell? It was $240 after MIR this morning. The price skyrocketed in just a few hours. A lot of 6950s seem to have gone up in price recently.
The 6950 is the better buy at that price, IMO. I'd try to go for a 2GB model that unlocks.

Alright, good to know about the driver support. That was my main concern. I apologize if #3 made it seem like I'm considering either one of those GPUs; I'm actually waiting for the 28nm parts before making a decision. I'm hoping for something like a small, low power version of the 5870M (which...
Quick background: I'm heading to medical school this August (yay!) and I need a laptop. The chassis and other specs I can figure out on my own once Ivy and the 28nm mobile GPUs surface in the coming months. Price notwithstanding, I'm hoping you guys can help me make the decision between an AMD...
They're already much lower than the MSRP. I don't expect them to drop much lower in price for quite some time, if history is any indication (e.g., 4870 prices when 5770 came out).
Actually the 1080p monitor is 21.5", yielding a DPI value of 102.46 -- higher than my 30". They're sitting right next to each other, and yes, the jaggies are far more noticeable on the 21.5" monitor at the same viewing distance. Please tell me what I should be seeing.
LOL, yeah that's presbycusis. I can hardly wait until I have it. In fact, I'm probably on my way toward experiencing the symptoms -- or not experiencing, as it were. You'll never hear those pesky high-pitched sounds again!
You could also probably add one of these to your lawn ornaments...
Of course it looks nice; I'm just saying it's not worth the performance hit. You need crossfire to have a playable framerate with 4xMSAA, and that's a whole other microstuttering headache. You have quadfire, so I'm guessing it doesn't bother you as much :p
I average over 60 and occasionally drop to 40, but I don't have 4xMSAA. It's really not worth it at that resolution. The game is ridiculously smooth as is, and the jaggies are super tiny compared to a a lower resolution monitor in the first place.
On the AMD side, the mobile roadmap isn't as clear as that of their desktop counterparts. If I had to guess, I'd say Q2 -- assuming yields are sufficient. As for Nvidia, I have no idea. They seem to be placing a large emphasis on mobile technology recently, but who knows if that trend extends...
It's essentially a 6770M with a 100 Mhz overclock, still 40nm. Unfortunately all the sites I've seen just post canned benches for mobile parts, and even then very infrequently. I'd suggest waiting until AMD or Nvidia release their 28nm mobile parts before buying anything in the mobile sector...
Neat! Until I saw the price. Might be a nice alternative to PlayOn for video streaming from a computer -- that is, if you don't have an Xbox or PS3 handy.
It's all guesswork and hearsay at this point.
However, it's worth noting that the prices for many cards have come down enough from their original MSRP that -- assuming history repeats itself -- buying a discounted card now will net you the same price/performance ratio as when the next gen...
Hi there, I'm offloading two stock XFX 6970s. They are both registered with transferable lifetime warranties. Both are in great condition, never overclocked. I have one of the original boxes, but in a mad cleaning spree my girlfriend threw the other one away. For reference...
This. Whenever I update my BIOS, it sets the BLCK to 103 and my system is completely unstable. With the exception of SB-E, I wouldn't recommend touching the BLCK. Not worth the minor improvement.
Lol, no kidding. All of his posts have been wiped as far as I can tell. It's causing this thread on the "nVidia Flavor" forum to report as 7 pages; then when you click on the thread, only 6 pages.
Sorry, my bad. I had two tabs open and hastily linked the wrong one:
http://hardocp.com/article/2010/12/14/amd_radeon_hd_6970_6950_video_card_review/8
That 16% (technically 15.5%) was based on 238 watts (6970) vs. 206 watts (5870) at full load. At 2560x1600, [H] averaged about 22%...
