So called Consumer's right's organization holds members hostage

Send the letter "Return Receipt Requested". That has nothing to do with the ECA; they'll put a small postcard onto your letter at the Post Office (you have to bring it down to them), and when it gets there the Postal Carrier will remove the postcard and mail it back to you. Then you have PROOF...

    File sharing on different nic

    1. Set up the NICs on either end of the crossover cable with static addresses that are in the same network, but are different than the addresses being used by the WiFi: Usually consumer equipment uses 192.168.X.X for networking. So you could use 10.X.X.X for the NICs (for example, 10.0.0.1 for...

So let me see if I have this straight...you need to create a website. Plus you don't know anything about web...

Web form to update Access DB

It can be done, but not with html...you need to use a scripting language to "do" things. You'd need to make a page in PHP, .net, ColdFusion or some other scripting language that takes information from the form and adds it to the database.

    SQL and phpmyadmin

Not working on it from within the university; working on it from home and uploading it to a university server. It's really the standard way to work on web pages and scripts. SQL and phpmyadmin

It's possible that's the problem. Most schools have server space allotted for you, and they expect your web pages to be on their servers. They might prevent outside connections to the database.

Wait, let's start from the beginning...you write the php on you laptop, but then you upload it to a server at your university, correct? SQL and phpmyadmin

I see on this page that they don't list a MySQL server, just a PostgreSQL server named "musse" (A Møøse once bit my sister...Monty Python reference). If that's the one, it would be: $db_dsn = 'pgsql://Alan:[email protected]/Alan'; It also lists "mandala" as an SQL server, and "salt" and...

    SQL and phpmyadmin

So: $db_dsn = 'mysql://Alan:goldfish@localhost/Alan'; does't work? Are you sure the database is hosted on the same machine as the php script? If it isn't, then "localhost" is wrong, and you'd have to put in the name of the server. Are you still getting the same error message?

Yes, that is correct. It does seem a bit strange when you think about it; your school just decided to do it that way.

    sharing through ethernet?

To use "regular" CAT5 cables you'd need a hub or a switch...one cable from the first computer to the switch/hub, one from the switch/hub to the second computer. Silverlight is doomed because it brings nothing new to the table. Why should developers who have gone to the trouble to learn html, xhtml, css, PHP, MySQL and Flash learn something new if it doesn't expand the user experience? Now add to that the monumental distrust of Microsoft, and their...
