    I would splurge $300 on the 5850 if you're wanting DX11 and some room for the future. If you don't mind forgoing DX11, get the 4890 for now and in half a year buy a second one for cross-fire.

    Just remember as you've mentioned already - your 680i is not Crossfire capable. So if you pick one up and want to get another after you return, you'll have to change your mobo as well. Happy New Year.. and be safe.
