There is a reason that level of machine is so cheap. Access panels/ease of disassembly take engineering and cost more to produce. Add that to the fact that 98% of people will never care to mess with hardware in a dirt cheap laptop, and it's a calculated decision to do it cheap and easy.

Just format/install Windows from scratch. That's been standard practice around my shop for years. Solves a lot of unnecessary complications, and you can be sure each machine is configured the same way. It really doesn't take much extra time, either.

You shouldn't need to change any DNS records. That page was just referencing where to find the smtp server name to send to. As another option, Barracuda can also be used as an SMTP relay, but I don't recall the configuration requirements off the top of my head.

I have argued that point for quite a while myself. There is currently a 5 port ($30) Linksys switch splitting the fiber ethernet to the two firewalls. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence. Unfortunately, that part isn't my call to make.
