    Shadow Warrior 3

Graphics are very impressive, gameplay looks pretty solid. The video has me concerned about the game structure though - too many cutscenes (hopefully just for the demo/start of the game?) Also noticed some pretty major performance drops connected to the blood splatters. Hopefully it turns out...

games that were on your school computers

Oregon Trail, Around the World (trivia game), Eliza (early "AI" chat bot), later on Unreal Tournament (original), Sim Farm, Marathon, and some sort of motocross game I can't remember the name of.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

Why would that matter? People would have to deal with adapters anyway, unless we somehow got all the power supply manufacturers to produce power supplies with the new connectors but no GPUs used them for a good 10 years. And even then we'd still have people using older power supplies and...

AMD's next-gen RDNA 2 'major leap forward' up to 225% faster than RDNA

There could be a business reason, or maybe they just can't get the new cards ready any sooner than that. We'll likely never know for sure.

Ryzen 3900x fails prime 95 with stock settings

OCCT has a good stress test you can use too, but if you're able to run Prime95 for nearly an hour I think you're fine. To try to stabilize the RAM with XMP enabled, you could try bumping the voltage up to 1.4V, and also try switching VDDCR SOC Voltage to offset mode (something I had to do.)

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

Heh I know what you mean. I guess it would make more sense if they used a completely different connector type with different physical dimensions.

AMD's next-gen RDNA 2 'major leap forward' up to 225% faster than RDNA

I'm curious, why do you guys think he's so untrustworthy?

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

There's actually quite a bit of evidence behind the rumor and it makes a lot of sense if you read more about it. The current 8 and 6 pin connectors are fairly limited and any card above about 200 watts requires multiple power connectors. Some overclocked cards even need 3. The new 12 pin...

Ryzen 3900x fails prime 95 with stock settings

Failing Prime95 dramatically (and very quickly) is exactly how I diagnosed my defective 3700x. It's always smart to look for other problems first (memory, power supply, etc) of course but if Memtest is passing and Prime95 is consistently throwing errors on the same threads, it's very likely a...

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

I can't say I've been particularly impressed with the RT performance shown on the PS5 so far. Gran Turismo is running at 60 fps, but with RT reflections only rendered at 1080p. Ratchet & Clank is running at 30 fps and still has various objects and particles excluded from the RT reflections...

    AMD Goings On...

You do have to keep in mind that the way a company runs their business can depend on their market position. AMD as the underdog HAS to do these consumer-friendly things in order to stay in business. Never expect the business model to stay the same when the market changes. We can always hope...

Sampler Feedback Streaming will allow Xbox Series X to better the I/O throughput of Sony PS5

I think the most important part of this system is that it's coming to Windows too. Combined with DirectStorage, we should be able to effectively match the PS5's storage bandwidth with a good PCI-E 3.0 NVMe drive. So much for the PS5 being a "generation ahead." It's 2 frames to go up one mip...

AMD RDNA 2 gets ray tracing

It would certainly make sense, but from what I've read the new console APUs don't have any sort of AI hardware so it would be rather difficult to utilize a machine learning system like DLSS. Maybe they're just planning on relying on FidelityFX to improve current upscaling? That said, I believe...

    X570 Chipset Fans...

I was a bit worried about the fan at first, but on my board (a rather cheap ASRock x570 Phantom Gaming 4) the fan only ramps up when first powering up the system before the splash screen displays. Then it slows down and is practically inaudible and I've never heard it speed up while using the...

What's y'all's read on the 12-pin PCIe rumor surrounding the 3080ti?

My initial reaction to a new power connector was that there'd be no positives but after reading about it more, I understand. There's two main problems with our current system: Needing to use multiple power cables for high end GPUs, and power supply manufacturers violating spec by daisy-chaining...

Is Corsair still a good brand for PSU?

Years ago I swore I'd never buy a Corsair PSU because they were really bad when they first started selling them. But now I run a Corsair RM650x, a series I picked specifically because it's very quiet and couldn't find any comparable models from other brands that didn't cost a fortune. It...

    Help with cooling

Has your framerate increased at all in games? I think the most likely explanation is that the games are running faster on Windows 10 and pumping out more heat.

AMD RDNA 2 gets ray tracing

Yeah the other part of that rumor is that nVidia might start enabling DLSS by default and try to get games benchmarked with it on to give them a performance advantage vs AMD. We'll see how good it gets.
  19. N

AMD RDNA 2 gets ray tracing

Yeah there was a rumor not too long ago that nVidia's working on DLSS 3.0 which will work in any game that uses TAA and doesn't need to be specifically implemented like 2.0 does. The performance benefit likely won't be as high though.

    AMD Goings On...

Yes, AMD absolutely will increase prices like Intel or nVidia have when they're on top. As others have pointed out, this has already happened with Threadripper and there are already rumblings of it happening with the Ryzen 4000 series since they will likely surpass Intel in gaming performance.

    How much RAM you got?

Built my new PC with 32 GB for futureproofing. I was hitting upwards of 13 GB used while gaming prior to the upgrade which is getting uncomfortably full. Plus I remember how game RAM usage skyrocketed after the Xbone/PS4 came out so I'm expecting a repeat of that.

Who's making moves to get ready for the new release of cards?

I think people expecting higher prices this gen are forgetting one key piece of information: AMD. nVidia's only been able to raise prices so much because AMD hasn't been able (or willing) to compete with the top cards for several generations now. nVidia themselves are expecting AMD to release...

Who's making moves to get ready for the new release of cards?

I'm fine on my 1070 until the new cards get here. Probably a smart move to sell your 2080 before any concrete info makes its way out since the resale value of Turing cards is likely to drop like a rock. And now we wait and hope that AMD will force prices down a bit, rather than raising theirs...

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is basically Ubisoft's own Witcher 3

Yeah my first impression of the start of the footage was a Witcher 3 knockoff. Riding a horse through a grassland area, fighting wolves with runes... And then it quickly reared its ugly Ubisoft head with the horrendous "cinematic" horse camera stuff and I didn't bother watching any more.

[Solved] XMP no longer working after CPU RMA

After the VDDCR SOC Voltage change yesterday, my system successfully booted first try this morning, so I'm going to call it problem solved. It's amazing how much of a difference a tiny voltage change can make. Thank you GameLifter for the suggestion.

[Solved] XMP no longer working after CPU RMA

Looking at the manual for your motherboard, it seems there are two separate options for offset sign, and offset voltage. I'm not really sure why those are separate since it's just one setting on my board. I'll definitely look into tinkering with that if this new BIOS update doesn't help...

[Solved] XMP no longer working after CPU RMA

I did see your reply in the other thread. What exactly do you mean by "offset mode, +"? Did you just bump it up by one increment (I think it's 6.5 mV)?

[Solved] XMP no longer working after CPU RMA

Actually looks like ASRock just released the new BIOS to support the XT CPUs. I don't know what other changes are in there but it's worth a try. I was just able to get it to boot again with XMP enabled by enabling SOC/Uncore OC mode, a suggestion I found in another thread. It still took 2...

[Solved] XMP no longer working after CPU RMA

Yeah I already tried 1.4V and it didn't seem to make any difference whatsoever. I can certainly try those timings, though my experience has been that auto-ing the rest of them is still iffy and it seems to be having the most trouble with the RAS timings. And then even if it works now, it...

[Solved] XMP no longer working after CPU RMA

So a bit of a strange situation here. I recently RMA'ed my CPU - yes I actually had a defective chip. Since I got the replacement, it's been nearly impossible for my system to POST with XMP enabled. With the old defective CPU, I had zero issues using XMP (and was never able to produce a...

Need help with random BSODs - strongly suspect CPU

Seems to be working fine. From what I've seen adding a second fan won't do much - you might knock 1C off the temps. I personally use Arctic MX-4 and also installed a Cougar Vortex PWM fan in place of the Scythe fan since it's more powerful but still extremely quiet (did the same with the...

Are you going for reference Big Navi/RTX 3xxx or waiting for AIB offers?

I'm definitely planning on getting a ~3070 and I like the look of that leaked cooler - it just depends on performance, noise, and cost compared to AIB solutions.

Need help with random BSODs - strongly suspect CPU

Ok I finally got my replacement CPU today (AMD's RMA process is a bit slow) and got my PC back up and running. Prime95 and OCCT are running clean, so looks like I was right about it being the CPU. Hopefully that's the end of my hardware problems for a few years. I also bought a Scythe Mugen 5...

Need help with random BSODs - strongly suspect CPU

Any particular Noctua you recommend? I know they're fantastic coolers but I have a hard time justifying the price. And yes Crucial's website indicates that my RAM and motherboard are compatible. CPU is in transit to AMD. Probably going to be a slow process since it's going FedEx ground all...

What Paste Application Method do You Use in 2020?

I've always done a full spread with a plastic card, particularly since I used to always use Arctic Silver which is incredibly thick paste. I've got Arctic MX-4 now which isn't as thick, but still prefer to spread it myself to eliminate any possibility of uneven coating.

Need help with random BSODs - strongly suspect CPU

Yeah I did submit an RMA request to AMD today. Still waiting to hear back. Looking into a new CPU cooler too because the mounting system on the Gammaxx is horrendous and I'm not looking forward to trying to install it again. They seem to have fixed it with a new version of the cooler but I...

Need help with random BSODs - strongly suspect CPU

Yeah bad cache is my suspicion. I've been specifically running the small FFT test in Prime95 which is intended to test all 3 levels of CPU cache. I assume the OCCT test has a similar focus since it's intended to test the CPU specifically.

Need help with random BSODs - strongly suspect CPU

I don't see the exact RAM model listed, but there are quite a few almost identical models listed from Crucial and ASRock doesn't seem to do a lot of RAM testing (last time I looked at the list I think there were only 8 models listed from 2 manufacturers.) RAM was definitely my first suspicion...

Need help with random BSODs - strongly suspect CPU

Another interesting note: This morning I tried bumping up VDDCR from 1.1 to 1.15V and that caused OCCT to run clean for 3 minutes, then very suddenly start spitting out errors at the same rate as before. Quite strange. Also disabled XMP so my RAM's running at 2400 MHz and that changed...
