when it comes to data center servers ... sometimes the cpu's are free
there was (maybe still is) a time not long ago that ibm would rent the cpu for free...but the ram was $1000 per gig ... and that was usually the show stopper
where is that 90mhz Pentium that needed a nuke plant cooling tower?
or
the MASSIVE heatsink for my Pentium Pro (oc'd from 60 to 66mhz!!!)
how many watts did the peilter cooler use for it? ;)
define "thoroughly tested"
and please feel free to elaborate...being that i was a RHEL tester for 3 years im interested in hearing what that is
dont worry i have the Orville Redenbacker truck delivering now.
you dont have a clue
AMD Fab 25 here in austin had dual power station feeds and that was in the 90's. one substation was right across ben white blvd ... about 1/2 mile away
there was another substation ON the amd property!
Samsung here in austin - oh wait whats that the only one outside of...
LOLOL too funny
i've been working on RISC since the late '80s
when it was actually a REDUCED instruction set
that reduced set has become more n more n more n a lot more and vastly more to where the Reduced should be removed nowadays
how does this risc-v compare to power10 ? both in computing...
my son and i still play Supreme Commander:FA with the FAF community mods. last weekend it locked up at the 1hr 1min mark. it tends to do that even with the core maximizer speedup util.
very true
if mining still pays the costs and produces a profit...they will continue
heck i just read an article yesterday on the state of kentucky ASKING for miners to come to ky!
imagine running a 3090 + 3070 > 430w
or twin 1080ti ~ 400w
today...it throws off some heat
what the card(s) consume is just a part (usually not even half) of the energy consumption equation
and here is the 1300 for 204!

i have 2 rooms on the same circuit. i know because i have popped the breaker 3 times and both rooms shut off. let me just say there is way more load in the other room than this room has. each system has its own APC 1500 va ups as well
i have a evga 3090hybrid AND an evga 3070 ftw3 on the same box thats a 3700x and 32gig ram (ie my sig rig)
and is on the same circuit as another rig with a i7 cpu, a evga 1080ti and 3 evga 3070 ftw3s
the original mustang in 64 1/2 was just a secretary car....a pony car....it wasnt until Carrol Shelby sold his GT350 to Hertz rental cars ... as the GT350H that the "muscle" part of the mustang started to take off with the Rent-a-Racer. then of course in the 1968 film "Bullitt" that had the...
yes i virtualized a decade there ;) ooops
yeah you'd have to be 98ish to even have a thought about it and more importantly have been in a family that even knew. the usa population was 125mil in 1933. which is barely more than tx,ca,ny,fl is now.
On June 5, 1933, the United States went off the gold standard, a monetary system in which currency is backed by gold, when Congress enacted a joint resolution nullifying the right of creditors to demand payment in gold.
and
President Richard Nixon announcing the severing of links between the...
this video is posted....today
go in about 1:15 and hear mike say his fendt ideal9 combind wont move because its thrown a def code
this is about a $900,000 machine that wont move because it cant pump urine into the exhaust!
and very very few people understand that DEF is really a fancy acronymn name for URINE!!! yes, that's what it is.
and all of the corrosiveness that goes alone with it. talk to any modern farmer about def issues. mike mitchell on youtubes has an entire video on how his new fendt tractor that...
yes mips in the sgi ... i just loved saying Crimson Reality Engine ... how could you not think that wasnt the coolest name ever
alpha in the dec ... love how dec used compaqs money to buy them
heck even 68000 in the early sun that then went to sparc
it was an impressive decade of explosive...
well i think i did say that it was 1/2 the speed at 4times the cost. would you pay for say an internet service that was 1/2 the speed but cost you 4 times as much?
intel was little endian and we had to do byte swapping to big endian (ie the #ifdef IA64) in all the code to make it work.
had...
yes they most certainly did. it was called pa-risc if my memory is right.
it was hp/hpux/pa-risc vs sun/sunos/sparc vs ibm/aix/rs6000 for the entire '90s
i worked for 2 years ('98-'00) on porting an OS over to Itanium (#ifdef IA64) and the "Itanic" as we called it. our name for it fit because it was so horrible.
one fourth the speed at twice the price. what a bargin! intel paid my company hundreds of millions of dollars for this effort that...
you guys are bashing on green a bit too much...red also deserves just as much. as do the other colors
it is easy to find a farming video of brand new $500,000+ equipment rendered unusable by software.
mike mitchell from sk,ca (non-usa) has several videos on how his green Fendt (agco)...
people...cyclone "claims" to be working on stuff since he was 12....yet doesnt show the technical know how to work on a lawn mower.
never mind the necessity of not merely needing, but requiring the use of the farm equipment in mind during a very short window of time to plant/harvest a crop.
i...
and you would go to someplace not only with cheaper electrical costs but also cold enough that ambient air for cooling
unless you are in a very northern state (and parts of MN hit 100 last week) i doubt you want to be anyplace south of alaska
you really dont know anything about the ceo's at ibm.
ketchup boy most certainly did NOT get "turfed" and ms mistake not only did not get "turfed" but split the company in 2 so she could be on both boards and get 2 golden parachutes. p boy didnt do the company any favors either. green acers...
you do realize its simple math
47mh/250w = 18.8eff
however, look at it more like this
that 97w of power difference each hour can take 0.33L of water and take it from ice to boiling ;)
cooling will vary greatly depending on the ambient temp.
if ambient is 59F then you can get some great low numbers on heat
but if ambient is 80F...well...that card is gonna be a lot warmer to start with
also another big factor is how much airflow you have over the backside of the card. right...
you should be able to go quite a bit more on your memory clock...your -501 and 46% are perfect
but you should (depending on card make/model) be able to go to +1438 on memory if you go up to 55% power and hit 62+ mh
