    AI Accelerator Cards in Desktops?

If this can improve my Stable Diffusion renders without me having to buy an entirely new videocard (and the cost is reasonable) i'm absolutely for this. I doubt that'll happen though.

    Shucking still a thing?

https://serverpartdeals.com/ is where i've gotten my last few. They have sales every now and then but even the base prices are pretty damn good.

    Shucking still a thing?

Yeah, used enterprise drive I think are my new go too. Just a bit easier, a little cheaper, and while I won't know exactly how long they've been used for, the quality of the drives themselves will likely make up for that.

I'm finally having shucked drives die on me... 7 years and well over 100TB worth of writes later. I need more hard drives.

M.2 mounting options? Heat under GPU? Heatsinks?

My M2. slot immediately under the GPU does get hotter than my other M.2 slots, but it still maxes out around 60c, which is...whatever. Honestly it doesn't make a big enough difference to matter. It's a 4TB SN850X and I utilize it heavily, but other things interfere with the data rate when I'm...

    The Router Recommendations Thread (Consumer)

Head over to the SNBforums Merlin forums and install entware and amtm on that thing to really see what it can do*. Having a DNS server / Adblocker / VPN etc. built directly into your router is awesome. Yes, yes I know that PFsense boxes can do all that - and more - but PFsense boxes also don't...

Will you jump on 40xx Super Video cards or would you rather wait for 50xx series to come out?

I need the VRAM so i'll likely bite if they're even a modest performance upgrade from my 3080 12GB but happen to offer 18 or 24GB VRAM. Otherwise I'm holding out for the 5000 series. For me the driving point of the upgrade isn't for gaming (Though that will be nice), it's AI LLMs.

    How much RAM you got?

Due to Black Friday I finally hit my computers final form. I have 128GB of DDR3600 in my machine instead of 64GB of mixed, really old and slow DDR3200. I managed to spend $124 on dual 64GB DDR3200 LP kits that hit DDR3600 easily. Did I need the space? Not really. I'm now using about 60GB as...

Netgear gs305p running out of ports - what is the logical upgrade?

Ports are cheap. just grab a 16 or 24 port unit and call it good for long time. Especially if you only care about 1GB. I have 52 ports even though i'm only using about 1/3 of them.

    A.I. for AsRock GPUs

More than 5 years since launch, the Epic Game Store has still not turned profitable

The only reason a lot of those games have higher numbers than Counterstrike is because they aren't PC exclusive. They're available on on every platform Including mobile. Also Microsoft didn't put games on steam because they think they're gonna buy valve. They put the games on steam for the...

They all also sell games on steam. They currently work as DLC and subscription storefronts where they keep 100% of the profits. Probably worth keeping around for that. As for GOG, they have a niche in the Old Games section and the DRM Free thing.

I used to bother with it, logged on once a week to grab my free game. I think I paid for one or two exclusives, then it told me to install "Epic Online Services" every time I relaunched it and I have zero interest in fortnite so i'm not gonna do that. I don't think I've launched EGS in years...

System memory fallback for Stable Diffusion on Nvidia GPUs

It's more that SDXL and other recent AI models are using more RAM because they're generating at a higher resolution. SD 1.5's 512x512 fit within 6-8 gigs pretty damn easy with some room to spare. SDXLs 1024x1024 or larger goes just to the limit of my 12GB 3080. I've had hard crashes over DWM...

    Is Serverpartsdeals.com a reliable store?

I've gotten a couple hard drives from Serverpartsdeals.com and they've all been great. Got 14TB WD Ultrastar drives for $99 each a few months ago, recertified - yes, but they haven't thrown a single error in 91 days of continuous usage and some rather massive data being added and removed.

Anyone seriously considering the 4070 TI

Yeah, I have a LOT of the settings tweaked quite a bit. I've been slowly learning and adding new nodes as I go. I have it set up so that it uses roughly 11gb of my 12276 total ram.

NVIDIA rumored to be preparing GeForce RTX 4080/4070 SUPER cards

In the extremely unlikely scenario that the RTX 4080 Super is somehow more powerful than a 4080 with 20GB of VRAM and significantly cheaper than a 4090 (Under $1000) it's tempting. I could use the VRAM. Still likely just gonna hold out for the 5000 series at this rate though.

I've been hitting the 12GB VRAM limit of my 3080 12GB a *lot* lately. It's absolutely holding me back. If I only had a single monitor and a lower resolution it probably wouldn't matter, but I'm routinely over 10GB in games and programs I use daily and don't even get me into how close to the...

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X - predicting bottom price for previous gen

It's pretty simple. Which matters more? Gaming first? 5800X3D Production or any other tasks that use 32 threads? 5950X. Keep in mind that if you do both, the 5950X will likely be more useful because double the cores and higher clockspeed makes up for the extra cache a little bit.

Even with my largest transcoding jobs the 5950X seems remarkably effective. Curious what'll happen with AV1, but for 4k x265 it's holding up so well that I'm not worried about upgrading, and I haven't yet come across a game that I feel is CPU limited, unlike when I had my 3900X. My 3080 12GB...

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X - predicting bottom price for previous gen

I love my 5950X and I personally don't think that the 7950X is a worthwhile upgrade for the cost of new mobo, ram, etc. Especially with as much RAM, SATA and M.2 ports I need. (Though the rapidly lowering price of NVME drives is making the last one less important.) I'd wait till the 8000...

    Asus hidden cable alliance

When it comes to SATA cables, I'm frankly mind boggled that we haven't moved past SATA 6.0gbps yet. I feel like they could easily implement a faster, more flexible, cable that also does power pretty damn easily. Using something like more modern USB cables.
