Edit: that’s an Ebay site wide code not...
Just picked up a 2tb ssd for $224.5 after discounts and cash back on eBay. 1 more hour left on ebay’s sale I think. Can’t really hear my hard drives of over my old psu but once I get a SF-450 again it’ll be nice to go all solid state and have a nice silent pc. Probably more than I should be...
Boxed up my SF-450 for return. My copy had a persistent electrical noise. Way quieter than the old Silverstone psu I’ve to put back in but still audible. I’ll wait a bit and get the new platinum version and hopefully I’ll get a silent one. Worth the upgrade just for the cables.
Tried some stress tests to see how loud my system is under load. Fans don’t seem to change speed until cpu temp reaches the high 60s. Peaked at 70c after doing a few tests in a row. The fans spun up to 824rpm for the nf-a15 and 987 for the u9s fans. I could just hear the fans but still pretty...
Yes, I’ve been looking forward to that PSU. I decided the Corsair would be good enough for likely a $100 less though. I think I don’t regret that decision.
That passive 1050ti looks great! I was thinking of an 1160 with the artic accelero as I’m more concerned with silence at idle than load but...
Still chasing silence. Deleted some games I can’t play without a gpu, moved my music to my ssd and removed my last hard drive.
Last remaining noise is a whirring noise from the sf-450 that I can now hear without the hard drive drowning it out. It’s not too loud but it is kind of annoying. Not...
Oh no. I posted earlier about being happier with the noise level of my build post new psu. Assumed the remaining noise was the u9s that I could hear now that my old psu was replaced. Tried lowering the rpms from 450 all the way down to 300 to get rid of that last bit of noise. No difference...
Not a fan of the Corsair cables. Didn’t really have the patience to properly sort out the backwards sata connectors so I just hooked up my front two drives and removed my rarely used 3.5” on the floor.
Everything is running fine. Unlike the first time I tried the nf-a15, the temperatures look...
Got my sf-450 and nf-a15 in the post. Having the nf-a15 on the side panel seemed, at least at idle, to raise my temperatures vs just running the u9s. Not too worried about it, but strange. Also having a 150mm fan feeding it cold air did not seem to quiet down my old psu a bit. Looking forward to...
Noctua’s fancy Sterrox fan is out. I was kind of expecting 35 or 40 USD. $29.90 is more reasonable if still a lot for a fan.
Now I just need to decide which fan to buy for the side panel. The nf-a12 isn’t that, that much more than the nf-a15 I was considering, but I’m not sure how much, if any...
Yes, Qrash you are correct. After thinking it was a software problem I finally opened up the case earlier today and saw an antenna cable was disconnected from the motherboard WiFi card. Plugged that back in, says I’m connected but doesn’t actually work. Boot my system off a USB key and it works...
Kinda frustrated with this whole build. Still haven’t got the WiFi working unless I bring my PC downstairs and set it right next to the router. Spent a good bit today trying and failing to get the Gpu working. So I have an expensive pc that can’t connect to the internet and runs Witcher 2 at...
I didn’t, everything worked fine for the last five years in my FT-03 mini so I assumed it would be fine. I’ll give that a try next week when I have the time. Really hoping I don’t need a new motherboard.
Edit: It works! Tried unplugging most everything, one stick of ram, cpu fans, nothing worked...
Spoke too soon. Fans spin up, it stays on for a few seconds then fans turn off for a few and then the cycle repeats. Took off the side panels, the low noise adapter, unplugged the gpu and a hard drive, no change. I think that’s all I have energy for rn. May just wait for my next day off to...
Look at that, it boots! A few scraped knuckles, but I got it together. The power plug wouldn’t fit with the psu facing out so I had to flip it around. Need to do better with cable management and I’m looking forward to upgrading to a modular psu but it’ll do for now. Core i5 3570k on a asrock...
Thank you so much Qrash. Measuring with a ruler I get 54mm centre to centre as well. I guess I’ll have to settle for the u9s but it’s not like that’s a bad option. Edit: u9s is on it’s way. For the side panel I’ll wait a bit to see if the Noctua Sterrox comes out soon, then likely decide it’s...
Just looked at my motherboard and I hope I’m wrong but I’m really not seeing how it would work with the dark rock. Space between the ram and a heat sink is a bit tight but the real problem seems to be how low the cpu is mounted on the board. It’s right above the pci express slot. <50mm from the...
Just got my a Ncase in the post a few days ago. Transferring my parts over from my old Ft03 mini, just tired of how loud that build was. I’m selling my gtx-970 for now but will eventually get the 1170 or w.e it’s called and an Artic Acellero xIII. I’m keeping my Silverstone sfx 450 for a bit but...
