Hello again!
Official support for specific bifurcation risers would be appreciated, so I don't have to do this again:
Maybe a side panel option with a cutout for the GPU chamber for ticket 2.75 slot graphics cards, so I don't have to do this again:
I still use the V1 just as it is in that...
Back in December I wrote about modding the Sentry to fit the AmeriRack PCIe Bifurcation Riser.
I'm happy to report that fitting a capture card (in my case, the Elgato 4k60 Pro) in the second slot works just fine.
If someone would like to gift me a second GTX 1070 Katana, I'd be happy to test...
I recently had this issue myself. I ended up taking a dremel tool to the screw head, cutting a slot into it, and using a regular flathead screwdriver to remove the screw.
Yeah, I had a really hard time coming to that decision; I attempted all sorts of different ways of fitting the bifurcation riser in the space between the GPU motherboard compartments, and just running the supplied riser cable through; I even came close, unfortunately there was just too much...
It would be neat if I lived in Alaska, where the ambient temp would be able to keep the system running cool.
You suggest cutting a vent, right? I might just do that, but I'd like to figure out the best way to do so while maintaining dat AESTHETIC
So it's relatively easy to modify the Sentry to use a PCIe bifurcation riser:
I'm using an Ameri-Rack ARC1-PELY423-C5V3 which I paid $58 for all-in.
As you can see, my GTX 1070 Katana fits perfectly with room for one more PCIe card. I intend to fill that slot with an Elgato 4k60 Pro...
Found it on Page 12, boy is that something. Not only will shorter cables be needed, but I'm probably going to have to hack at the Ameri-Rack adapter too—though the space in the Sentry is a little more forgiving so probably not that much. Thanks for the reference!
See MaximumBurrito's Dual Nanos...
SaperPL & ZombiPL: How would you advise a Sentry owner to adapt your case to accept a PCIe bifurcation riser? Or is there a way to use one without cutting/modifying the Sentry at all (Perhaps with a bifurcation riser that provides two PCIe slots on each their own ribbon cable instead of both on...
I'm not sure if I just missed it or if it's really nowhere to be found in this thread, but could you share the dimensions of this case? I'd like to compare it with the Sentry (which I already own, but am considering another build with similar form factor).
What are your temps? And at what ambient temperature?
My CPU and cooler are the same, but it thermal throttles at stock clocks in Prime95. My ambient is about 25°C.
Additionally my GTX 1070 Katana doesn't pass FireStrike stress testing but that's probably going to be the case no matter what...
When I reassembled everything again, I very thoroughly inspected every nook and cranny of the motherboard, front and back, and nothing looked out of the ordinary to me. Anyway, everything is working perfectly fine now after reassembly, so I'm not too concerned about that anymore (though it is...
I inspected the riser and it looks like there were little bits of solder throughout the PCB. Most were too small to be of much concern, but some globs were big enough to short the contacts of the exposed PCIe pins on the riser.
It's hard to see because my smartphone camera can't macro very...
I didn't notice anything wrong with it before I plugged it in to the board or after I removed it when my PCIe slot started acting up, but now that I know what specifically to look for I'll inspect it again. Do you think I should go ahead and remove the shielding to check the wires themselves...
I don't think I did, I was very careful upon inserting the riser as it was my first time working with a flexible riser and also the space is cramped so I didn't want to risk even dropping a screw inside the workspace and have to undo everything just to retrieve it.
Yes, you read correctly; the...
I slid the riser in from the GPU slot towards the motherboard area, as it wouldn't go in the other way. Only after sliding it in did I plug the riser to the motherboard's PCIe slot.
Neither of my graphics cards work on this motherboard now, with or without the riser.
However both cards work in...
I'm a proud owner of a new Sentry case (Unit no. 86, version 1.1) and I love it. In fact, yesterday I finished moving my PC components into it. However, I'd like to ask you guys if there's been reported issues with PCIe riser cables in general, as I've had a very bad experience with mine so far...
I emailed them and they clarified that the T318 mounting adapter would be for the AM4 socket only, if ever it came to market. Here is the body of the reply they sent me:
I tried googling around for a source, but couldn't find any. Where have they stated that they're working on this? I'm very interested in going this route.
I'm thinking of getting this cooler based solely on your review, as I'll be receiving my Sentry soon. I've read through the thread in its entirety and the LP53 still seems to be the best air cooler for this case. My question is, has there been any more recent developments/findings suggesting...
