Absolutely interested in this. I just got a Deskmini to run as a mini file server and some other tasks and was blown away by its size. If I could get rid of the power brick it's be even more impressive!
This actually would be easier if you screw the bracket back on. Once it's attached just take pliers and start bending it back and forth and it'll pop out. Those posts are just riveted in there so it should come out fairly easily and not leave any jagged edges.
Then to fit that actual 3.5...
So I was about to pull the trigger on a pair of these but realized the GTX 1070 Mini isn't compatible with it. Is it fair to say there isn't a 1070 that exists that would allow you to use one of the 2.5 hard drive brackets in the GPU bay?
I'm really not sure, they could have easily made it "official" by adding some mounting holes or making the optical drive mount removable. You do have to basically rip out the optical mount to do this, but it's super easy to do just with some pliers since it's riveted in.
As far as noise and...
You can fit a 3.5" HDD into the RVZ02 and ML08 while using a full length card, you just have to remove the optical drive bracket.
The messy innards of mine:
So I've been out of the SFF scene for a bit... Is it correct to say there still isn't a 1070 that would fit in the S4 Mini? I really want to make a tiny little powerhouse but I think I'm still playing the waiting game. At risk of suggesting something sacrilegious, if another production run is...
I guess I was worried I had rustled too many jimmies, thanks guys!
I hear you with the demands. It's kind of ridiculous to roll up on a near shipping product and be like "but what if you changed everything."
The DAN looks like such an awesome case and I think there will probably be some...
I mean... surely there can be a middleground, right? I haven't finished reading the thread but have been chugging through it slowly over the last few weeks. I don't know if I'll pick one of these up but it's really really cool to see how everything take shape. I know what I'm trying to do...
Looks great!
I know I'm probably the tiny minority wondering this, but that video got me thinking again, is there any chance you could comment on whether or not you could fit a 3.5" drive in there when using a short graphics card? I know it'd be up to me to make a bracket to secure the drive...
Ah, interesting. Could this be worked around by using an M2 SSD instead? I know those have heat problems of their own but at least you'd get it away from the GPU.
I noticed in this awesome build here he ran a 970 with an HDPLEX 250W and Hp Voodoo Firebird 350w Power brick ($50ish).
This looks so amazing, I love it!!!
Just curious since I'd love something in this form factor... I really dig the "mini" GTX 970 cards. Is the reason they can't be used in this case (based on your GFX card recommendations) due to insufficient external power supplies? Or is it a heat issue...
Eh, certainly not their level of experience but I know a few talented fabricators that I nag into making one. If I mounted one up front I think the easiest course of action would be to make new holes for the case cover screws on the bottom then just fabricate something to close off the gap left...
So I've been staring at this case and wondering...
If I was able to modify the outer casing (or make a new one) to lengthen it a bit and extended the power button and relocated the USB Port... is there any reason i couldn't install a 3.5" hard drive on the front instead of a 2.5"? I've...
I'm not sure if you're concerned most with volume or thickness, but if you aren't using a GFX card, or even if you have a small one, a SIlverstone RVZ02 or ML08 can hold two 3.5" drives as well as at least two 2.5".
