I am so glad I found this thread. Considering doing this to power an RX470 in a optiplex 7020 or 9020 SFF. Thanks for documenting everything, awesome work.
I don't really care too much about the power brick turning on and off with the machine, as it will be on most of the time, is there any...
i spent a total of 864$ over the course of a few months, plus using a PSU and 280x I already had, and now I have something like 340 ethereum worth over 4000$. I wish i had setup 10 machines, but I definitely wouldn't start now. The heat here in Texas this summer was a bit much to deal with and...
the 8gig part doesnt matter much for mining, but you'll be set for games with massive textures! good luck.
I personally use claymore's miner in dual mining mode ethereum+sia coin, on miningpoolhub.com
I use the asrock H97 anniversary. It is the updated version of the h81 Pro BTC. I paid 50$ new for it from newegg back in march or so.
Also, keep in mind that ethereum mining could end at any time, but is more likely to happen in the first or 2nd quarter of next year.
With free electricity...
this is a crazy good deal!

edit: i didnt even realize how old this post was. Crazy they still have all of the different "sizes" in stock after all this time.
the reference 290x are loud as hell. Everything else is pretty quiet. but yes, its loud and hot and power hungry. Luckily power is cheap here in TX and mining will be over soon after winter. I'm ready to get rid of it!
anyone worried about the looming PoS? once ethereum mining is done, all other profitable coins should (arguable) be mined into unprofitable territory soon thereafter. I'm weary of adding more cards at this point, but I do have 4 more PCI-E slots available :D
lots of miners on the various coin forums are pretty upset about this.
However, in the grand scheme of things, the RX 480 hashes very well for its power draw.
More ram! I haven't had pagefile enabled since like 2007, it just slows things down. I could see that some old programs might require it. Heck most linux OSes still prefer to have a swap/page partition even though it isnt essential
leave it on with about half of the power saving features enabled, my g3258 sips power when its not under full load, processors are getting to be pretty efficient
asus installs a bunch of bloatware. it definitely isn't pure vanilla android. I think motorola is the only of the major manufacturers that does do pure android roms.
Also, I think the phone is yet to be rooted so you can't install a clean custom rom yet, but that will likely change.
This...
overclocking ITX is awesome. I haven't done it in years but am a fan of the form factor. Also it doesn't tend to be any cheaper. You are more limited in your choices. I would definitely go with a good tier 120mm AIO water cooler, like an h80 or better. Maybe the Coolermaster 140xt/xl if your...
while i agree that the evo is excellent and a much better guaranteed longterm solution with less chance of failure -- the rate at which it brings a cpu from hot under-load to idle, will be much longer than most of the decent aio water coolers (which are also 1.5x-2x+ more expensive) :(
i could never get 100% happy with linux/kodi either. I ended up using installing kodi in windows so i can easily use netflix and amazon prime without having to deal with beta or broken plugins :[ . kodi works fine though, i just wish the local media tv scraping was better. I didnt have to...
