OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I'm running omnios, v11 r151042b. All of my VMs are vmxnet3 except for omnios as I cannot make it see the NIC when I choose vmxnet3 from my host. I have to flip it back to e1000 for it to recognize a NIC. Know any tricks for this, I've read your manuals and didn't see anything special. I...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

NAPP-IT v22.03b Gea, Pool info & properties have been attached. I see 'ashift 0' after I click on my NAPPTANK pool hyperlink after I click on the menu 'Pools' and it displays the properties. Its prolly not an issue as it reports '12' in other areas. Hardware: 1GB Network - shopping for...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Gea, I've got a pool that was created back in 2014 and I've swapped out drives over the years to grow my pool, now running four 10TB 4K drives. I noticed when I looked at my RAIDZ1 pool 'NAPPTANK' with the four 10TB drives that the 'ashift' value is 0. I've read that this cannot be...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Thx for the tip on the mounts. When I create the new filesystem, since it'll be empty, how can I get my data into it?

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Prior to Nas4Free there was already a filesystem on the pool. If I create one in Napp-it, will it destroy what data is already there? I can browse the mount point /SKYPOOL but hoping I won't lose that data if I create a new filesystem. No, it doesn't have to be 'skypool/skynas'. I was just...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Gea -- Thanks for the reply. I exported my pool and reimported it, but first I had to remove the 'SKYNAS' folder from 'SKYPOOL', but still the filesystem doesn't show up in Napp-it as it normally does. I can open a SSH session and browse '/SKYPOOL' and I see my data. It is mounted for...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hoping to get some help with a old ZFS filesystem please. Importing 10 year old Pool from Nas4Free Setting up a new filer server, running ESXI and Napp-it Main issue: ZFS file system not showing up in Napp-it, but it is mounted and I can browse it from the command line. SKYPOOL/SKYNAS...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

OmniOS v151038 Napp-it v19.12 Gea, I'm updating my hardware to a Dell R720 with the 3.5 bays up front. Looking to get your opinion on drives and how they are setup for the SLOG, OmniOS, and the VM storage pieces please. New server specs: Dell R720 Memory: 96GB RAM CPU: (2)...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I'm adding another disk to Napp-it (passed through via ESXi) just for snapshots. I'm wondering if there is a way to tell Napp-IT to create snapshots onto my new disk? Also, it looks like there is a way to manage snapshots of my VMs through the napp-it interface? Jobs --> ESXI Hot-snaps...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Great, thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you were running a disk for the SLOG or not. I need to design mine correctly as I don't want my system to suffer.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

J-san, Did you encounter slow performance on your pools that were connected to your LSI before you went back to P19? Do you mind posting your disk/pool setup that you are currently running? I'm betting you might have already done this, but this thread is over 300 pages.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Gea, Thank you very much for your input. I think I'll be picking up a couple of 500GB samsung 840 Pro SSDs and mirror them for my VM datastore and use one of my 120GB SSD disks for ESXI/OMNIOS install. If I'm going to run 6 disks for a raid-z2 then I'll have to rethink my 'case'...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hi Gea, I was hoping you could give me a suggestion(s) for the best way to setup my disks? My setup: mobo: Supermicro X9SRL-F CPU: (1) Xeon E5-2630v2 NIC: 4 port Intel I350 Memory: 64GB ECC Controller: IBM 1015 (flashed to IT mode with P20 firmware) - thinking of getting a...
