I cannot, for the life of me, connect 2 devices at 4K@60 to this monitor. When I connect just HDMI #4, I get the (expected) 4K60. As soon as I plug in the DP, the HDMI #4 instantly drops to 4K30. I've upgraded to the latest firmware and it made no difference... :(
Also, my HDMI #3 doesn't do...
You need to install LG's OnScreen Control and update the firmware. The odds of you getting one, from a store, with an updated firmware are slim to none.
This monitor doesn't have Freesync (never has). Yes: a bunch of websites reviewed Freesync versions of this monitor, but those never got to mass production (nobody knows why, and LG never established the difference).
It's crazy frustrating and the single reason I'm thinking of getting rid of this monitor as soon as my budget allows an upgrade to a better setup… For single screen use, it's fine, if a bit too big (4K @ 36~38-ish inches would be ideal IMO), but for a multi-screen setup (aka replacing multiple...
I’m having issues now too and I had it working before and upgraded the firmware. Right now, the monitor keeps thinking the USB-C is a VIDEO input (Windows even complains about it)… :(
So, anybody else getting super fuzzy text when splitting the screen with 2 inputs? I thought the issue was my 2 previous cards (770 and 970) but I just got a 1080Ti and I'm still getting super fuzzy text when I do a horizontal split with two 3840x1080 screens on top of each other. Individually...
Yup. Thought of that the second I posted that comment and didn't bother to fix it! haha Right now I have plenty of storage space, so keeping all the enclosures won't be an issue. If I move or the warranty expires (whichever comes first), I'll just toss them all :)
All 3 are WD80EFAX, WD Reds with 256Mb cache (from Thailand). I shucked them already, which was REALLY easy using the 4+1 system (just used an old card, cut 1/3 out for the "leverage" piece, and then cut the other 2/3 in 4 squares pieces for the pegs).
Ran WD's Lifeguard Diagnostics Extended...
Just went in to my local BB and they had 2 in store, both made in Thailand. Since I wanted to pay with PayPal, I had to put the order in online and they'll only be ready for pick up tomorrow… #sadpanda
If I can convince the missus, I might try to snag 3 more before the price goes back up for my...
Absolutely not. This display is incredible and definitely uniformly lit. You might've gotten a faulty panel. I'd talk to the vendor to get it replaced. If not, you can always reach out to LG directly (the MU has the business warranty which is WAY better, and even gives you some neat features...
The more I use the MU the more I find it difficult to believe that it isn't an AH-IPS panel: the matte coating is super light, the viewing angles are superb, and not to mention 10-bit color seems to be a thing with AH-IPS too… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #confused
Got my 43MU79-B from that Newegg deal today (holy fast shipping; ordered Monday). Once again, firmware totally upgradeable using the OnScreen Tools from the 43UD79-B. Totally fixed PWM frequency!
43UD79-B vs 43MU79-B (official reply)
Am I the only one who finds this difference VERY odd? But that would explain the 5ms vs 8ms GTG. Other than that, what are the other fundamental differences? Curious to find out which IPS panel is on the MU…
Alright: I talked to LG and they said that there is a difference between the UD and the MU (8ms vs 5ms GTG). I then asked about firmware updates and they said they would be different. I then asked if any new firmware updates had been released for the MU recently, to which he said no.
I decided...
Yeah: the panel looks absolutely identical, but I'm 90% sure I'll return the MU to make sure I don't miss on any firmware updates for the UD… Sucks that LG isn't coming out and saying something about that! :( I've tried reaching out to them to no avail. Will try again today…
No, it's not end of life: it's simply out of stock. Check other websites and you'll get stock prediction (B&H, for example). Another monitor that has gone through the same short supply is the 32UD99-W.
As for the 43MU79-B, I bought one (I posted about that literally 3 posts above yours)...
That was my assumption: hard to make identical panels differ only by 3ms GTG right? But that difference is the difference listed on LG’s site: MU is listed as 8ms GTG, and UD as 5ms GTG… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So, I thought I ordered this monitor but accidentally got the 43**MU**79-B. I can't tell the different but LG's site lists the **MU** model in their business section (with a $2150 !!!! MSRP)… From everything I can find, the main difference is 8ms GTG (vs 5ms GTG on the **UD**) and 3-year...
Actually, I don't see anyone else posting this, but one of the biggest drawbacks of using TVs as monitors (at this size) is the lack of "Picture-by-picture" aka the ability to tile several INPUTS into your display. That's HUGE for a big panel like this… You can basically set a TRUE multi-display...
Guys-
I'm building a new rig and going for 4-way Crossfire. I've honed down to these 2 options:
- Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC Force ($299 after $100 rebate)
- Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD7 TH ($432)
Normally, the price is very similar but there is a rebate going on for the OC Force for $100 (one hundred!). I'm...
I was wondering about the same thing… Amazon and Newegg don't have this case in stock for some reason! R5 or R4 v2 coming out soon? They just refreshed the Define XL so I've been wondering about that! Was looking at ordering the R4 this week… :X
I said "better materials" as in actual better quality materials, not specs! :)
I'm with you on CUDA: I do video production and need CUDA! I'm not even considering ATI for that reason :\
The difference between Nvidia and Apple is that Apple actually uses better materials and components; Nvidia doesn't. Apple offers supreme warranty and support; Nvidia doesn't.
Anyway, Nvidia needs competition and so does Intel. Intel is afraid of Apple using their own chips (like they have...
FWIW, their stock price has been in the dump since 2008, so nothing new there… I feel really bad for AMD: my current desktop machine was one I built in 2005 and it was an AMD X2 3800+ (overclocked to 2.4Ghz on a Thermalright XP-90C, aka a 4600+). Back then (and before that I had an Athlon...
Alright, just ordered this:
CPU: Intel i7-3770k
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH
Memory: G.SKILL Sniper 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866 (want 32GB–video production and VMs–but I'll wait a bit and just buy another pair of these)
Took advantage of a 10% discount if I signed up for V.me...
Thanks guys! This makes a lot of sense :)
It seems Haswell will be an improvement but not that significant to justify either 1) waiting or 2) building an interim solution. Besides, still I plan on using this build as a hackintosh as well, using existing, better supported chipsets will probably...
Hmmm My problem is that both my C2D 2.5Ghz/4GB RAM laptop and my X2 4600+/2GB RAM are not cutting it anymore (for a while) :X Should I consider an interim solution (lower end i3 or something) for the next 2 months and then just re-use it as a server (which I was going to do with the X2 anyway)? :)
Wow!! $229? Not $329?? I've seen it pretty much everywhere at $329… $100 is a lot of "coin"!! :o
UPDATE: Confirmed $229 but… in-store pickup only and the closest store is about 3h away! :(
Good point! The only issue is I can't wait that long :) I'm on a very old system and finally got around to having the availability (aka $$) to upgrade it! :P I'm reading more on Haswell and I think I rather upgrade to it in a year or so (prices will drop, platform will stabilize, etc).
It...
Hey guys,
I've been eyeing a new system for a while and have it all wishlisted on NewEgg. I'm about to pull the trigger on "stage 1" (mobo, cpu, ram) and have noticed that the Intel processors have had coupons and sales for the better part of the last 2-3 months. The price is now back at...
