This information should probably be added to the first post.

They've already said that they are going to be purchasing extras to cover against manufacturing defects and shipping damages.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I'm going to transplant my current computer into this case (currently it's in an SG05). i7 3770k Galaxy GTX680 4gb model Samsung 840 pro 256 gb SSD 3 TB HDD ASRock Z77 mobo 16 gb RAM I'm going to purchase a new CPU cooler of some sort (probably an H60) because I've still got the...

    SFF Portable Workstation

Ooh, neat! Thanks for the tip - I might just get one (or two).

    SFF Portable Workstation

Cool - thanks for the input. I agree that they are comparatively small issues, but I thought I would take the opportunity for a small thread-jack and get some input from someone who has experience with portable workstations and has clearly put a lot of thought into the process.

    SFF Portable Workstation

USB-monitors have low enough performance that I wouldn't consider them worthwhile on a system with actual graphics hardware. Fine for a secondary monitor, but I wouldn't one as a main monitor. Hotel TVs are an option, though a bit location specific. The entire system would be useless outside of...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Fortunately GPUs tend not to be running at max capacity during boot-up sequences. EDIT: Damn, beaten to the snark.

    SFF Portable Workstation

Any thoughts about monitor and keyboard mouse pairings for portable workstations like this? It's all well and good if the computer itself can fit in a carry-on, but without a monitor it's a bit useless and flying with a 27" desktop monitor seems to defeat the purpose.

    M3A2 Beta Project: Discontinued

Indiegogo also has the added bonus of anybody in the world being able to start one, instead of just US or UK residents.

    M3A2 Beta Project: Discontinued

The NCase hasn't sold out. Spots on the priority list have been sold out, but the NCase has yet to fund/do a production run and as such hasn't sold any units.

Interest in Seasonic modular, fanless/semi-fanless SFX PSU? are you buying NCASE y/n?

If it's anything like similar inter-company operations in the field that I'm in, that PSU likely went back and forth a hundred times between the two companies as revisions and designs were changed and updated. If you're going to pay another company a large sum of money to make a product, you...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

@kuhla: There is quite a bit of support for an internal ODD. It just happens to be a bit of a divisive issue.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I'm assuming that he means an addon in the kickstarter sense of the word - an upgrade that you buy in addition to the tier of reward you pledge at ie. I would pledge at the tier that gets me the case, then add on the non-ODD top as an extra fee. I could be pretty easily convinced to buy a...

ITX Case w/ no Optical Drive and ONLY USB / Audio Ports?

If I may ask, why is it that you don't want an optical drive slot? If its because you want the smallest case possible that can fit a GTX 680, then I would recommend the SG05/06. They do have an optical drive, but I don't know of any case smaller that also has two expansion slots and the right...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I like the idea of a designing for changing use over time aka. growing into a thing. Going to have to write that down somewhere.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Based on the current success of the campaign, it doesn't look like it'll be a worry whether or not you can get 300 customers for a supply run. $10 tier sold out already! Congrats!

I kind of like M1 because it brings to mind the naming scheme used for most weapons in Mass Effect.

Help picking components for custom wooden cased SFF

Personally, I think that an external DVD drive is definitely the way to go unless you are playing a lot of blurays on it or something. I never use DVD drives outside of the initial operating system installation. Even then, I tend to use a 5.25" internal from an extra computer wired into an open...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Is this question directed at general backers, or at people with actual knowledge of shipping? Also, would a kickstarter count as an online store for these purposes?
  26. M

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Another vote for no ODD, though if it doesn't make the case bigger or edge out other features then I don't really mind so much.
  27. M

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

To be fair, it's a discussion about how to handle audio hardware for this case in particular.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

The Prodigy fits a lot in, but it's also quite large. Bordering on mATX in size, with over twice the volume of this case.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Wow, that is really neat. The amount of options this case gives you out of the box is not for the faint of heart!

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

As long as the symbols are legible (we've all seen bad offenders on this front) I think symbols are the way to go. Good way to get around potential language barriers.
  31. M

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Actually, I disagree. Relying entirely on colour-coding for labeling is bad UI design. I think you might be able to get away with it in this case given that it is being designed for a very limited audience, but I wouldn't recommend it. I don't know how it would play out with people that are...

    HTPC/SFF Gaming Rig!

You may be shocked to hear this, but people use computers for high end tasks that aren't gaming. Never mind that most != all. I've personally decided on a 3770K because it'll cut my compile times in half... EDIT: Though given that this thread specifically mentions gaming, I'm just tangenting here.

Sanity check and a few questions

Even at the regular price, that's a pretty good find. Pretty much on the top of my list for secondary/travel monitors right now. Thanks!

Sanity check and a few questions

ODD isn't a big loss. The velcro method seems reasonably feasible. Would the H60 be the best way to go? Or are there any alternative cooling solutions? As far as the monitor goes, I guess wasn't being very clear. The 27" would stay at home, and I would have a secondary sub-20" monitor that I...

Sanity check and a few questions

Ah, oops. Knew I missed something. If I go with the SG05, I'll use the 450W PSU that comes with it. In the case of Lian Li alternative, I'll likely get one of the Silverstone modular SFX 450W PSUs. One possibility, depending on timing, is that I could get the SG05 and PSU while waiting on the...

Sanity check and a few questions

So I am starting a new job soon, one with a higher salary, and that means it is finally time to upgrade my old system from 2008. The are two things I am looking for in this build. First: reasonably portable. I don't own a car, so ideally I would like to be able to take this on the bus with me...
