    Official GTX 680 Owner's Thread

I thought as much. 4.5ghz 2500k 2x EVGA GTX 480 SSC@ 850/1700/2000 They push hard on every tite i throw at them. I also give stock 580 SLi a good run for their money in most games:cool: BF3 at ultra with 4xSSAA (4x supersampled 4xmsaa) (kharg island 49players) Min:55 Average:70 Max:150...

    Official GTX 680 Owner's Thread

Hmmm i like how quiet these cards are and the power consumption is pretty epic. Do you guys think my Silverstone strider 1kw 80 plus silver can handle 3x 680's? Problem is i may get buyers remorse as 2x 480's rip everything up at my 1920x1080 res.

    Seasonic VS. Corsair

My Silverstone Strider 1KW 80 plus silver is inaudiable even at full load pushing huge overclocks on my cpu (5.0ghz and (900mhz 480's). This psu can manage a peak of 1130watts! according to johnny guru.

What size PSU for this build?

I would go with a decent 650w unit, such as a Corsair TX650, if you want to upgrade the gpu anytime you have the headroom to do so.

    Are my temperatures alright?

19c idle and 55c under load at 4.5ghz on H100. 23c idle and 68c under load 5.0ghz on H100. If you stay under 70c you are fine. Your temps are fine.

    Worth ditching my 6870 for a 480?

The 480 is a monster, if you can grab a good aftermarket cooler, such as a Gelid icy vision or a Artic cooling solution. These gpu's can handle some beastly OC's and also show the difference massively in fps, and scores.

Quick question about the GTX 5xx generation

If you can get a GTX 480, do so. These cards had issues, however they are built like tanks and can take some extreme abuse from overclocking. The 500 series has weaker vrm's and cannot cope like the older gen 400 series. I have managed 935mhz core on one of my GTX 480's with 1302mv and air...

I know for sure a single GTX 680 is not going to beat my 2 480's, so i will pass this gen of cards.

ATI vs nVidia- which will benefit more from a CPU upgrade?

A GTX 480 will eat most games alive up to 2560x1600. These cards were made specifically for higher res gaming at the time of release. The Vram may be limiting in a few titles such as, ARMA II/ GTA IV/ Metro 2033 with DOF and 4xAA at 2560x1600 res. Not alot else will make a 480 struggle with...
