I usually buy the EPS extender with bigger internal wires (only $3.00), cut that adapter wires in half, reconnect yellow to black and black to yellow. Use electrical tape to insulate it. Now the female side can be plugged in directly with PCIE from the PSU. This way you can still reuse that PSU...
I found that different resistance on the EPS wire will cause the motherboard to heat up to 50C at the connection point. What I found helping is plugging any EPS adapters to near the 24pins. The straight 8pins cpu connector from PSU should be at the bottom of the motherboard or further away from...
I have all the parts for folding except the you guess right.;)
Looking for used 4P motherboard in working condition to replace the broken motherboard I have on ebay. Preferred GL, but GI will do as well.
PM me for details.
I finally got mine running stable at 3.7ghz 1.275V. My frametime is around 8:50 on 8101.. Possibly because of my slow ram.
Temperature at VRM is 70C, so I'm at limit, unless I watercool the VRM as well ;)
yeah, basically the VRM area must dissipate 20% of the total cpu heat. If your OC cause the cpu to consume 200W that is a whooping 40W of heat that the VRM has to dissipate. In my case, I had the heatsink on and no fan, it still smoked those mosfets :o
They are 6.5 x 6.5 mm
The mosfet will burn at high OC not the Ferrite chokes (the taller components). It does not hurt to sinks them. The more the merrier, but most of the time it is in the way of the cpu heatsink mount.
right still have 1 half length pin dangling in cpu2 socket :D 6200 never boot on cpu1 socket which is perfect. Even with ver 3.0, only spinning fan, no graphic led is on.
I used 3M thermal tape and thrown away marker's board aluminum frame cut out seems ok as well.
not 24 but lots' more than that just a few posts above

ubuntu 10.10 booting process is very fast. There is no speed advantage in using different hardrive. Just make sure you have ext3 partition for folding. Other option is to fold in ram. If you are WC and OC to the max get those mosfet heatsinks and fan. I've learned it the hard way.
Thanks tear you're right. Upon close inspection inside cpu socket. One pin were broke in half. The other were bent. I only fixed the bend one and now all dimms are recognized and function correctly.
yup that's what I'm doing for now.
I also have other issue: one channel ram recognized but not use by bios when boot up, it said request for interleaving but not use and it reported only 30G available instead of 32G. Could it be dirty cpu pins or I just have a bad ram slot. I know the ram stick...
Mine is exactly like yours and also bought from ebay ... No matter what I try it won't boot 62xx cpus. Since I have 61xx cpu here with me so I can flash to any bios I need. I still wonder why that is the case. My 62xx cpu does boot in a different motherboard.
No problem. However if you are planning to run 61xx this case is plenty for you. I'm talking for overclock something higher than 2.5ghz only then I have heat issue. But I'm sure if you add more fan to side panel and top. Heat won't be a problem.
Cool, it would be nice to try as I don't need all 32G ram
Gskill F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO
md5sum is on the other power down hard drive. I can give tonight when it is power up if you really need it
Really!!! Would time frame drops if I use half of the ram meaning 8 sticks of ram instead .. Or do you mean only using half the capacity in each of the 16 sticks ram. I looking to speed up frame time.
Thanks tear. It is command mode 2T by gskill manufacture recommended setting. Wonder if I should flash back to V2 .. If you know where I can download V2 Bios
I'm on 3.0 Bios. In the begining I'd like to make Trcd = 7, Access mode 1T and voltage 1.5V .. Ultimately, these are the fields I'd like to mod
Tcl=7 Trcd=8 Trp=7 Tras=24 Access Mode:2T
It is LIAN LI PC-A70F got it on sale for $120.. I have to mod quite a bit to get it to work such as removing top hardrive case and the supporting bracket. Install top rear fan, extending the back board top to support the huge motherboard .. It is very hot if you have internal heatsink so I use...

402blownstroker : I can run this setup at 3.6ghz 1.24V vcore untill it dies. It is my fault not to secure the 80mm black fan on the right good enough and cause the disaster the other day.

Help ....Running at 3.4ghz then 1 of the power mosfet fan fell off and the machince shutdown and refuse to restart. When I hit the power button the fan move lightly then off for good without movement on next power up ... until I unplug the power cord and plug back in then the whole process...
false alarm! I thought it failed prime95 test but apparently it did passed. What I misunderstood is the console message Hardware failure ECC failed for L2 cache appear from time to time on that 3rd cpu. I suppose the cpu correct itself and moved on because all tests passed.
All is well now...
Boy am I in for trouble. WU started to fail. I started to mount 1 cpu at a time and run series of test.
Using prime95 and one of the ES cpu always fail with hardware errors and fail prime test. The rest seems to be okay.
