That is a good guide though I have never seen or had to use the taping pin trick. There are a few other HF threads on flashing this card if you have problems.
You are also likely to find a better price on the 7 slot models and the 13 slot models were just released. Functionally the two versions appear identical, it all comes down to whether you require the two 2.5 hotswap drives on the outside.
Most of the systems on eBay seem to be the "TA"...
I have good experience with these HGST drives but they are quite slow. In my opinion a better option is the new Seagate NAS drives. The price difference for a 4TB Seagate is $200 vs. $150 for the HGST but the speed improvement (sequential read/write is very close to 7K4000 HGST drives) and...
Take a look at this post
Based on the example above, an 8 drive raidz2 vdev: 128K/(8-2)=21.3K = Bad alignment, not a multiple of 4K
In a 10 drive raidz2 vdev: 128K/(10-2)=128/8=16K
Save yourself some trouble and buy a LSI 6Gb HBA from the start. The IBM BR10i is a 3Gb HBA and is not going to work with drives over 2TB.
I would reccomend buying an LSI 9210-8i/9211-8i or their oem branded equivalents from IBM (M1015) or Dell (H310,H2XX). I have a Dell H310 running LSI...
I have this posted in the for sale thread also. I will sell for $1100 to a HF member outside eBay.
The math compared to the $350 version looks like:
$350 Chassis
$250 SAS Expander
$90 HBA
$115 6 port NIC
$400 MB, CPU, RAM
---
$1205
I am also including the rack rails which will run another...

The one for $350 is a great deal but most people are replacing the Power supply, MB, CPU, RAM, HBA, etc and the cost rises quickly when you do this. Mine is turnkey with much newer hardware.
Bought card as a project to see if I could flash with LSI FW...was successful in debranding card and loading LSI P16 9211-8i IT firmware. Have tested card but now it is time to pass to a new owner. Looks and functions like a 9211-8i adapter.
$90 shipped

I have a HDHomeRun with cablecard also but don't really use it because I have the Ceton in my primary HTPC. I think I'll setup a machine to use the hdhomerun and see how this goes while the InfiniTV 6 matures.
You can add another HD to the pool but it will not become part of your existing raidz1 dataset. Essentially you will stripe the existing pool with your new drive (think RAID 0) so this is probably not something you want to do as failure of the new drive will cause your entire pool to fail...
Thinking of switching my InfiniTV 4 PCIe to a networked InfiniTV 6.
Does anyone care to comment on:
Reliability
Channel changing speed
Tuner sharing
WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor).
I finally have my HTPC and InfiniTV 4 rock solid and I don't want to go back to the daily tweaks to keep it...
