Wow, glad I started reading this thread. I was actually looking at upgrading my AM4 system (5600x) going to a 7800x3d for Stellaris/Clausewitz games. Now I'm not so sure...
Interesting read nonetheless, as other people have mentioned it's really niche to even see anyone do any benchmarking...
Yeah - that's pretty much the main reason that's putting me off this. The 38's are a perfect size and very good for my productivity.
Putting work stuff on another monitor wont really work for me, sadly.
For those that have come from one of the UW 38's, what's your experience been like? I WFH a lot so a bit unsure (IT, so RDP sessions, spreadsheets, Teams etc)
I did do a 43 at one stage but found it a bit big. The 38 is a perfect size for me, but have a slightly better desk setup now so...
I'm tempted to flick my LG 38 for this. I love the extra real estate, but I've been drooling over an OLED as my main display for a while..
Problem is I'll take an absolute bath on my LG. Decisions..
Hi guys,
Have my Dancase in transit and am going with some recycled gear from my old build and some new gear. Have a Asus stix 470, and will be populating that with a Ryzen 1700 from another machine (unless a decent deal comes up on a 2600 in the next few days). I'm also recycling a 1080ti FE...
I'm interested in this too. I've already ordered the l9a but as it's pretty hot where I live I think I'm going to need all the help I can get
Also, what was the deal with the USB type C front port up module? Just a rumour or something promised?
Historical reasons mainly. I had been running nappit with a raid card presented through to nappit via IOMMU up until about 3 months ago (originally I wanted ZFS served out of a VM). That system was pretty limited RAM wise and obviously I couldn't cluster it with my new Intel system (Natex dual...
Melbourne represent, I'm from there as well!
I'm running 3 of these 2670s and have a very similar setup in a Fractal XL with the Natex offering, which I'm using for my home ESX lab. I've found the be quiet coolers to be great and have put them in some other builds now too. Unfortunately (and...
I went from a 290 to a 980ti @3440x1440. Mostly happy with it but will be jumping back to AMD once Vega hits I think (provided performance is good).
The 980TI is fine for the most part (I've had it for about a year) but do think it was quite expensive at the time.
I have this monitor too. I really like it, but have relegated it to my couch monitor as I was straining my neck too much looking from side to side (went back to using a Dell 3415W). I think it if my desk setup was a bit better I wouldn't have had the problem.
Do you think this uses the same...
I actually have a 34" Dell and am looking at going to one of the Korean 43" IPS 4k panels. Ultrawide is great and relatively easy to drive, but keen to try something else now.
I'm pretty sure it's bleed (my other IPS monitors aren't nearly as bad).
Take a look in the various threads here, there's a few examples. Tbh though, it doesn't really bother me enough as the only thing that I would've considered as an alternative was 4k Phillips which is a VA I think (If...
Another happy 3011>3415 owner here. Yes, the backlight bleed is pretty crap but overall I'm happy with it, particularly for gaming.
The Acer is pretty tempting to, but driving it is going to be too much effort I think.
I really hope they've sorted out the issue with the 290 fan rattle. I had two of them which both had the same problem, and I certainly don't think I was the only one with the issue.
It's a shame, because it seemed a good card apart from that.
Why aren't you impressed? There hasn't been any *concrete* details afaik, apart what AMD have leaked, and my understanding is it'll go toe to toe with a 980TI. What do you want, a happy meal and a blowjob?
Yeah, I'm running a Dell 3415W on a single 290 and for the most part I'm running games at 75% details and it's fine. I had a 30" 2560x1600 before this and the single 290 ran alright too.
While it's certainly nice to have everything turned up, simply removing things like AA and the like can...
If they want to remain competitive I would think they'd need to get something out the door by early July. I find it unlikely they'd be able to meet those timeframes if they were still mucking about with clockspeeds.
I call bs tbh
I'm quite keen on purchasing AMD (have done so since the 2900XT) but I do feel they've taken a bit too long with this release. I'm quite keen on upgrading from my 290 now - I've had iterations of this card since late 2013.
The 980TI is looking mighty tempting. I'm just hoping the 390x...
I guess AMD have their reasons, but I'm pretty disappointed. Was very keen on picking up a card in March/April to replace my 290 - which isn't actually performing that badly, however I've had fan rattle on both the cards I have and they'll be going back to Amazon.
So basically it's a case of...
I would normally recommend the 290 wholeheartedly but I have gone through 2 PCS+ Powercolor 290's which both suffer from fan rattle, at idle speeds.
I'm going through the returns process atm, couldn't have come at a worse time tbh. Wish AMD would hurry up and put a date on the 3xx so I can...
Thanks. I've got some more RAM on order and hopefully no issues. I run a lot of nested vmware environments and I'm hitting the limit at 24gb. One of the attractions of Haswell E was 8 dimm slots, but with the price of DDR4 I'm not touching that for a while yet.
Anyone running 48GB here? I'm currently running 24GB, and was hoping to max out the board. Just wanted to see if people were able to do that and still have relatively successful overclocks
I use my main machine (UD3R, X5650 and 24gb of 'generic' Adata Ram) for a lot of VM work relating to my job. I also use it as my main game machine.
For gaming alone, moving off X58 is a silly idea, as it performs admirably. But lately I've been wondering if I should move to Haswell E due to...
I have the PCS+ 290 and was very pleasantly surprised. Build quality is up from what I've expected from Powercolor and it definitey outperforms my reference 290X!
I don't think you can go wrong with either, I would go for whatever is cheaper tbh.
Really hoping the 390(x) comes out soon. I would've jumped on a 4k (Phillips) VA panel if I was able to drive it with a single card, but thats not likely to be the case anytime soon. Picked up an ultrawide 34" instead and even my 290 struggles a bit with that, so keen to upgrade.
I picked up a 8320E for 99 bucks, and got some pretty okayoverclocks out of it (sits around 4.6 stable).
The problem is that compared to my X58/5650 system, its actually slower at gaming in DA:I and FC4 (even though my X5650 is running 2.9). But as far as 'stable' OC's for the 8320 go, it...
I'll try and get some better shots - I think it is overexposed as well (sorry guys, I'm using a RX100 and was just using the automatic snap to get the photos up). It doesn't look that bad in person.
The bleed is still worse than my Dell 3011 (A06) panel though, which is a real pity. As I...
Hey =)(=, did you have a play around with the LG Ultrawides? If so, how did you find them in comparison?
I ended up picking up the Dell 3415W but it has pretty bad backlight bleed - so I'll likely be returning it. Not 100% whether it will be a refund or swap at this stage.
Yeah its with the machine not connected to anything. It seems toauto adjust brightness when dark so its not nearly as bad as that, but it still seems pretty bad though. One of the other guys who got one reckons it's not as bad as mine.
The game is Crusader Kings 2. I just wanted to...
Picked up the Dell 34" today and have been playing around with it. I'm pretty happy with the monitor overall but unfortunately the kicker really is the bleed issue.
As you can see, its quite bad. It's not *quite* as bad as this but in dark scenes it really stands out.
I'll be talking...
