@Danny Bui is correct, for example Linux software RAID supports a Write-intent bitmap which will only resync blocks that have changed in the bitmap before they have been written to all devices. In my experience it can reduce what would take a day or more of checking to a few minutes.

I'm not sure if this would help since it's failing for write, but you might try the option to continue after read error "dd conv=noerror ..."
