Should I get an M.2 to PCIe x4 adapter?

Yes, a 950/950 will easily max out the x2 slot. If you want to get the full speed out of your drive you will need the M.2 to PCIe x4 card. I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/Asus-M-2-X4-Card-flexibility/dp/B017YUCAXS

PCIe adapter for SAMSUNG 950 PRO ,can you help me?

I have not noticed any thermal throttling on my 950 Pro. It will really depend on your systems airflow. If you do get thermal throttling, there are little heatsinks you can buy and stick on the 950 Pro to help cool it down.

Right now its a 20 drive Raid6 with the one hotspare just to test the expander I added. I'm going to try stress testing it with a 7x 1TB drives I have laying around to see if it stays stable. I would prefer to stick with one giant raid6 because it's easier, but with the way 3TB drives are...

Need some info on my server build.

Thanks for the reply PigLover. My HP card seems to be working fine on the internal ports, no hangups or issues with it detecting drives like others have reported. Maybe i'm just lucky? Does that mean i'm good to go?
