There are some changes I already have in the queue:
-Add 2 USB ports on side next to power button
-Add approx 3/4" to depth to allow for optional fans in front of video card
-Create a version with aluminum front and sides (if demand is there)
-And of course the build quality will go way up as it...
Hi everyone!
Some might remember my previous scratch case build from this thread:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1588463&highlight=slimitx
The basic idea for the SlimITX case is to create a slim desktop case that can accept some powerful miniITX components, along with a dual slot video...
He may be right about realtime graphics being 8 years behind pre rendered but I havent seen an 8 year old movie (and rarely a movie today) that I would consider indistinguishable from reality
I think more has to be done with the way we model things, the fluidity and physics to help from here...
So I think I mentioned before that the bearings on the Silverstone cooler were shot. Another issue with the Silverstone cooler is it had thin fan blades which means low static pressure. I wasn't getting good flow out my side vents with it.
My friend donated his stock 2500k cooler to me and I...
I wonder if this is because the GCN GPUs will have awful power consumption (much like first gen Fermis- also designed for compute performance)
28nm refresh with VLIW-4 will be nice. That means I probably will get my new x770 :)
I really want a replacement for the 5770 darnit. Does it sound like this means they will replace it (i.e. 7770?) or that it will have to wait for the next gen?
This plane was at my school for a demonstration. It's a pretty great idea. It's really not a "flying car" though.
The beauty of the concept is for weekend pilots that want to have a plane but don't want to pay for hangar space. With a Terrafugia, you can park it in your garage and drive it to...
Wha??? 4870 ~= 5770 ~= 550Ti, at least that's what I thought. In fact if anything, I bet the 4870 is faster than the 550
Also I think that CPU has enough power to stay relevant if overclocked. SC2 is unfortunately one of the most CPU bound games out there so every little bit will help. Make...
It's just OK. When the PSU was stock it was definitely the loudest factor when the computer is at idle (idle noise ~38 dBa from 3 feet). Not so much in a decibel way, but the high pitched whine of the fans stood out. Under load you couldn't hear the PSU however as the GPU would definitely take...
Just wanted to let everyone know that this project is not dead yet... this is only the first incarnation :) I'm still hesitant to call this version of the case a finished product. I've been tinkering with a lot of ideas in my head over the past two weeks because I've been unhappy with the case's...
I don't understand what you are trying to do. Auxilliary output? Do you mean preamp outputs? Or an auxilliary input? Or do you literally mean an auxilliary output- like, a headphone jack?
I'm honestly so impressed with the 2500k. I was around for the early Celerons, PIII, P4, and I've never felt as satisfied with an overclock as the 2500k. There's just something beautiful about a chip which runs so cool, and has so much overclocking headroom, with an unlocked multiplier, all for...
Has Microsoft announced that the API is going to be supported? I just want to make sure it's not a gimmick before I get really excited. I mean the Word demo printing was impressive, but for all I know they could've just ported a limited version of word and made a custom print driver
Yes as others are saying they have very good prices sometime. In 2008 I got my Dell Studio 15 with Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz, ATI Mobility 3450, 320 GB HD and 4 GB of ram from there for $800- that was better than the same configuration on Dell with an educational discount
Just recently I bought a 19"...
I'm curious how application and driver support will be for ARM. I imagine it will be gimpy at best, much like Windows CE devices of the past. I imagine the ARM support will come in in some form of "Windows 8 Embedded" like they did with XP... it would be really neat though if an ARM could run...
EDIT: Update, Laptop sold and I am taking the computer combo off the market
Hi everyone,
This is my first sale here although I've done a few at Anandtech. I always do my absolute best to make my buyers happy :)
Unfortunately I'm in desperate need of some cash so I'm selling off the...
This is very saddening for me to hear (as I've been one of those people "patiently waiting"). I remember when I bought my 9600xt and it came with a free voucher for Half-Life 2 that was supposed to be coming out in a month!...and that turned into a year or so, and by then the card was obsolete...
I'm very confused about this review. Is the APU in crossfire with a dedicated graphics card at any point? The review seems to talk about it it like it's in crossfire (referencing driver issuess) but I never see a mention of another GPU...
I did some twiddling around in SW, and realized that a Corsair H60 radiator will fit very nicely over the GPU intake grill. I'm thinking if Ivy Bridge (or "Bulldozer Enhanced") bring an IGP adequate for Starcraft II/WoW then I may ditch the discrete graphics and go water-cooled for a very quiet...
I actually envisioned something very much like that, but with the type of collapsing handles they have on Ammo cans:
When I carry the case I find myself most often carrying it by one side, so I think this would work well. It's pretty well balanced in that orientation.
I think it's going to be hard for you to beat a traditional radiator in design. You say the design is very similar to a traditional radiator but it doesn't look like any radiator I've ever seen. All radiators (and heater cores) I've seen consist of a tube (usually copper) that is bent back and...
I wasn't aware I received that and I can't seem to find it.. are you sure you got the right guy?
Besides that, big update today!
Report is due tomorrow and final presentations are Thursday so I finally had to finish up this project :D The engineering requirements of the project kind...
This happened to our best LP at Sears, but even more ridiculous. The thief swung at him, and he knocked him the fuck out in self defense, only to lose his job. I feel like there should be an exception in there for acting out of self-defense, but now he has a better job anyways.
This comment made me lol. I'm glad we are finally seeing this! It reminds me of how things were back in the pentium days when everybody and their uncle was making chipsets. Of course we aren't quite there...
Thanks guys! I came up with a workaround for the front audio port so no need for that.
That's funny about the mesh- someone suggested I use it so maybe pass the word along :) It probably doesn't have the best dust filtering characteristics, but it's a nice aesthetic.
I'm in love with the...
I thought maybe I would post this here to see if any of you had feedback. I wanted a front audio port and I wanted to see if I could set one up with materials I had laying around so I did a little experiment, and now I'm very curious as to why it's not working as expected. Here's what I did...
Proper GPU mounting! Woo!
Old PSU fans:
New PSU fans:
Thinking "Outside the box" (bad pun) I decided to mount the intake fan outside the case (the size I have wouldn't fit inside) Also, that old fan was 12v 0.4 A ! Thats a lot of power!
Need more PCIe Connectors!
Add some length to...
I did this with a 6600LE I had lying around for shits. I originally intended to clean the dust off and then once I realized how fast it was spinning I kind of wanted to see how fast it would go on 120 psi... It didn't explode, but I'm pretty sure the bearings are shot
