    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Sorry, I never replied to this. Yes, the recommended way to calibrate 2 monitors is to match white visually, and then use that white point "as measured" as the basis of the calibration. In this case, calibrating your LCD with your i1 Pro is more reliable due to the wider spectral power...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Thanks! Looks like there were no changes to the exposed VCP codes. I'll update my monitor tonight.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Can anyone who has done the firmware update show me a screenshot from that control my monitor app? https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/control_my_monitor.html I just want to make sure that the options I use in there are still there after the firmware update. Thanks!

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I wouldn't just calibrate white balance on this display to the meter, even with a spectral correction. There's a pretty big metameric mismatch between this QD-OLED and say a typical LCD. If I calibrate my QD-OLED and either of my LCD monitors white balance both to D65 with my spectro, they...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

My picture is right after a full panel refresh. Both the refresh processes seem to do nothing. I mean they run, but they don’t seem to visibly improve the image. I’ve run the pixel refresh every day like you are supposed to and the panel refresh every 1500 hours also like you are supposed to...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I've got quite a lot of burn-in on mine by now. Not looking forward to the RMA process based on what I have read from many other people.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Both don't look that great to me. That's why I turn them off and usually just use externally injected SMAA instead. Honestly I just have not been impressed with any of the up-scaling techs yet including DLSS. All I see are motion artifacts here and there and often an overly-sharpened look...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Why would you want to take a minor downgrade?

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Yeah, I have absolutely no doubt that there are people who are affected by it. But yeah, for the vast majority of people it's not an issue.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Yeah, SDR content at 120 nits looks great and as intended in Creator sRGB mode at 2.4 gamma. And HDR content looks great as intended in the standard HDR mode. I don't understand what's so controversial lol. I have seen many monitors and this one easily looks by far the best and causes no eye...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Not sure what you are trying to prove here. The low/original looks significantly better.
  12. S

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

The whole issue is with SDR you can't... Power law gamma doesn't allow it. Highlights can be made bright, sure, but regular things will then also be way too bright too and you can't prevent that, because they are encoded at the same triplet values. You need an absolute scale like PQ EOTF...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

The LCD is not flickering. I can confirm that with a 960fps slo-mo camera. 200 nits full white field is just not a comfortable brightness. SDR and HDR are completely different formats. SDR is designed for around 100 nits peak white. The brightness of the various elements on the screen are...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Not sure what you mean by this. My room is never bright. It's dim at the most to completely dark most of the time. I mainly use this monitor at 120 nits for SDR for several hours a day and never have had any eye strain in the months I have been using it. I wouldn't want more than this for...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Doesn't this only affect a small portion of people? I've never had even a hint of eye strain from any OLED (iPhone, TV) including this new QD monitor and I sit in front of it programming for hours a day and gaming in the dark.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

It's not meaningless. It means they are confident that it wont burn in for the vast majority within 3 years. And I would bet that their RMA process gets a lot better and a lot smoother a couple years from now by the time anyone actually starts to maybe get any burn in...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Really depends on room lighting I'd say. 250 nits SDR seems like it would be more than enough for most lighting. I wouldn't even go with an OLED in a room so bright that it needs more than that. I have mine set for about 120 nits for SDR and find that to be a very comfortable brightness on...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I would be wary of the calibration measurements in terms of color and white balance in that review. They seemingly used a colorimeter without a high res spectral correction. Also, QD-OLED in my experience needs an alternate white point rather than the standard 6500K in order to visually match...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I use a media player program that does auto switch it. If you were using a browser then you would just hit Win+Alt+B to turn on and off HDR when you are playing the content.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Why would you need to have the desktop in HDR mode? HDR mode only activates when HDR media playback starts in my media player.
  21. S

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I don't use HDR for desktop use and I never would. I have only used it for movies and TV shows so far which I have a lot of in HDR.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I must not be sensitive to ABL because I use HDR1000 mode for watching movies and TV shows all the time and I can't say I have ever noticed an ABL effect on mine.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

For me, by far the best monitor I have ever seen. No issues with near black for HDR, looks better than any WRGB OLED I have seen for that. Personally have not noticed any flickering.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

60% for SDR mode. In Eco mode. Maybe because my room is not hotter than 70F? Like another other guy said I can't hear the fan once my ear is about 12 inches away from the monitor. and i normally sit about 24 inches away, so not even close to being able to hear it. And this is with everything...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

My room is very quiet though. There is no ambient noises and my computer is tucked way under my desk with a custom loop cooling and quiet Noctua fans that are set limited to 1000 rpm max. I had the monitor since June and I have never heard the fan inside it from my seating position about 2ft...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

That's what more resistant means lol. Means it takes longer to happen. There is no mini LED monitor that comes close to QD-OED in many aspects though. Nothing lasts forever. These have a 3 year burn-in warranty, so they will last at least that long, and for some that's long enough.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Well QD should be at least a bit more resistant to burn in than WRGB because the inherent design of QD requires less light output from each OLED for a given brightness. Put another way, they are more efficient with their light output. So given a QD and a WRGB OLED outputting say 150 nits, the...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Fractal Meshify S2. Custom loop cooling with Noctua A12x25 radiator fans that are set to never go over 1000rpm. But the tower is completely under my desk. I can't even tell it's running. If I put my ear right up to the vent on the top of the monitor I can tell there is a fan running inside...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Definitely been loving mine, had it for about 1.5 months now. Looks fantastic, came with 0 scratches or any damage, I have never heard any fan noise. Early version with firmware 101, but no issues with it at all. I told it to run the pixel refresh once and don't show the message again. I run...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I have not used any liquid yet as I have not needed to. I have only needed to clean off occasional finger smudges and similar things. If I needed more than a dry wipe clean I would start with distilled water, and then move to the Eclipse cleaning solution if the distilled water didn't work.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I do notice ABL in games and I think overall I prefer 400 mode for games. But movies are far lower APL than games and I have not noticed ABL in movies for what it's worth. Plus like I said, 400 mode has massive clipping in movies, unless you set up madVR and set it's output to 400 nits.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I have been comparing movies between 400 and 1000 a lot and I really don't ever see ABL kicking in in 1000 mode. 1000 mode is noticeably more dynamic looking and I must prefer it to the 400 mode. However, the big issue with 400 mode is that it hard clips at 400 and this makes it overall...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I am confused. I have not heard any fan noise in 3 days of using it now for several hours a day. Why am I going to suddenly hear it eventually? Why does it take days to start making noise? What's going to change? I tried this program with that number, but it made the text in some stuff...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

For what it's worth, I have been using it all weekend and have not heard any fans at all. I think my room is quiet. My PC is custom loop cooled and under my desk and I run all the fans in it at less than 1000rpm. I can barely tell my PC is on from fan noise, and I still can't hear any fans in...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Got my monitor this weekend and have been getting used to it all. Here are my thoughts and results on calibration. So, all the preset modes target P3 which is annoying as it will over-saturate everything normally. The only mode that can do sRGB is Creator mode, then set to sRGB. Creator...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

If I go to 60Hz I can easily see tearing, but for whatever reason it goes away at 144Hz. I have my fps limited to 140fps FWIW. This doesn't really feel like a realistic test to me. To me I would be interested to know if I can be playing my favorite game with g-sync on, and if I got up from...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I mean, I have been playing PC games since the late 90s and mostly shooters. I can't tell a difference between 120 and 144Hz and I also can't tell the difference at 144Hz between G-sync on vs off. I don't see tearing in either and both look smooth.

Lol, and if I have 0 interest in playing a pixel art game or doing text work? I am buying this monitor for 3D gaming... Have fun with your low contrast and pixel response times I guess... I'm moving into the future. Yeah, problem is even with the latest GPUs I don't expect to get much more...
