Suggestions for home phone service over internet

I have a Samsung Note 2 which I am thinking about updating. My phone carrier is Verizon and my home cable service and WiFi is Comcast (whatever they are calling their WiFi over cable today). It is very easy to go in the menus (push the leftmost button at any home screen (unlocked). Choose...

Delta Computer Outage Is Just The Start, Say Experts

Ridiculous. Not the article, but the airlines moaning. A day one, obvious, requirement for any airlines scheduling, reservations, or billing systems is fault tolerance. They might have started off with a backup system in the same location, but should have switched decades ago to a...

AMD and NVIDIA GPU Vive VR Performance in Raw Data @ [H]

I'm curious. Missing from the card specs is the VRAM size. This should only matter for the RX 480, but if the card used was a 4 Gig card, then both poor performing cards are 4 Gig cards. It would be interesting to see what happens with an R9 390, or even an 8 Gig 480.

NVIDIA Founders Edition Cards - Yea or Nay? @ [H]

I think everyone is missing what is going on here.. This is not really about Pascal or nVidia, it is due to the limited availability of GDDR5x memory for the next few months. The 1080 will be very hard to get until maybe September. This means that nVidia will be controlling distribution of...

    ASUS STRIX Radeon R9 Fury DC3 CrossFire at 4K Review @ [H]

Felt I should post this here since I did mention the (new) 15.9 beta: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Catalyst-15.9-Beta-Memory-Leak.aspx A little more information (which is all anyone has). The graphics memory will fill with junk. In some games it is not a problem--but...

    ASUS STRIX Radeon R9 Fury DC3 CrossFire at 4K Review @ [H]

I take your point, but don't miss mine. I did have a Crossfire setup with dual 6950 cards. The R9 380 was because my air conditioner couldn't keep up. As long as I was running just one card, why not get a (much) faster but lower powered card and decide if I needed a second one? (Not for now...

    ASUS STRIX Radeon R9 Fury DC3 CrossFire at 4K Review @ [H]

A lot of readers here are missing an important point. The assumption that the latest driver from AMD or nVidia is the one for you, buys a lot of people trouble that reading the vendor documentation (and to some extent sites like [H]ardOCP) would let you avoid. To be fair, web sites face...

    Black screens on 6850

If you don't know which drivers you have installed, hop over to AMD's web site and download the full package of 12.3 drivers. The problem you are running into can occur when Windows decides that there is a newer driver for your video card, but Windows doesn't update other tools. You can end up...

Fiber Optic Capacity Hitting the Wall?

Exactly. Most fiber is laid using cables with over 100 strands of fiber. A lot of those strands are still dark. What if there really is a fiber bandwidth crunch somewhere? Cables with over a thousand strands can be run in the same space. except that 864 (6x144) strand gel filled is very...

    Google’s Offshore Wind Power Project

Two points. First. Google IS NOT BUILDING A WIND FARM. Get over it. Google is investing in an offshore power interconnect from Northern New Jersey to Southern Virginia. Wind farms will find it convenient to connect to this interconnect, but it could make money without one pinwheel stuck up...
