I have that heatsink and motherboard combo as well, although I dont have the gtx590 to go with it.
good points:
- quiet
- the gap between the heatsink and motherboard is situated ideally so that air can go strait out the side vent, there is no obstruction.
- cheap $AU45
bad points...
I see your point, but my sg07 wrapped in a towel + mouse + cables fits in my normal sized nike backpack.
a smaller sg05 would mean I could fit more stuff in there, ie: wireless N nas?
if your talking about the 450w usb3 sg05 your crazy. u'll get a 2600k + gtx680 in that thing and is half the size of this mITX bohemoth
its like the cubitek tank, its not mini at all, its a mATX case sized (silverstone tj08e) but only supports mITX boards
id ask the dude what temps he's getting, just sounds like lot of effort there mounting fans, cutting holes etc, you might not need to, and if you dont have a benchmark you wont know if it was worth it
you did see my post right? theres a good side shot with the 590 in there, with and without the cover. looks to be over 10mm clearance, plus the end of the 590 is actually stops before the side vents end, so you could probably deflect the heat out the side with a barrier of some kind
the define is nice looking, but to call it SFF is a stretch, its only a couple of cm smaller than the define r3
define r3 = 21cm x 44cm x 52cm
define mini = 21cm x 40cm x 49cm
tj08 = 20cm x 38cm x 38cm
true, however people are shoe-horning gtx570s + atx psu + h70 into an sg05, 580 is the same length so in theory the highest spec sg08 rig can be acheived in the sg05

the design no longer applies, the sg07 was only that long to accommodate the 5970 with the design philosophy of the smallest possible case with the largest possible vga card.
scratch the 6990/590 off the list due to exhaust at both ends, which leaves the 6970/580 which is 20mm shorter. the...
I'll be getting a 590 for my sg07 build but I am also questioning the adequacy of the stock psu.
these guys did a comprehensive review of the psu:

so the main points are:
Input: 12VA 30A 360W
12VB 30A 360W
So...
having had ati cards since the 4870x2, i am hugely disappointed at the 6990 offering. 1x active mini DP to DL DVI adapter and only one DL DVI port meaning eyefinity cannot be achieved without forking out another $100AUD for an adapter. If they are marketing eyefinity they should at least bundle...
