ooh this is exactly what I wanted to see, I am having issues at the moment when sickbeard finishes a job, while it is unpacking and moving finished downloads, i get stuttering or pausing on video being watched elsewhere in the house. this can be annoying because it often finishes episode...
Sub, i was reccomended this file manager by a Oldschool *nix coder that I work with,
http://www.ajaxplorer.info/wordpress/
Was wondering if you or wingfat or someone would be able to tell me if that is installable on the server alongside ZFSguru. Not asking for it to be integrated into your...
If playing files from PC, you need to check that DXVA is enabled, otherwise your cpu will be doing the gruntwork rather than your video card. AFAIK the 8800gt does support DXVA, however the 8800GTS/GTX doesnt. here is a site with a lot of information about setting up and testing video card...
my volumes have simple names data1 and data2, they are 1 vdev per volume.
The boot issue I had seems the same as Metaluna, I will do some more testing when I get a chance, I found my IDE >CF adapter, I will load that into the server and try installing file system to that.
Would I be better...
yeah I did format them GPT, i currently have 2x 6TB volumes, when this file transfer finishes I will move everything off the root pool, destroy it, recreate it, install ZFSguru to usb stick (or my CF-IDE drives if i can find them) then migrate everything back to main pool, destroy the second...
Thanks for the quick update mesa.
Ive had a few issues
I did the zfs on root install, method, and then the system just wouldnt boot, I cant remember the specific error now.
I now cant expand that volume becase its a root volume, because of some poor setup choices on my part. I am in the...
I have 10 disks total, made a vdev with 5 disks RAID5, then tried to expand it with a second set of RAID5,
ERROR: You selected RAID5 (single parity) but have selected less than two disks. Please go back to select at least 2 disks.
Is this what I should be doing to get a single volume made...
Bah, seems I have bought the wrong cables, I bought Reverse breakout cables, they have the wrong size mini-sas connector on them. apparently I need forward breakout cables to go from mini-sas HBA to sata drives.
Just got my Br10ix2 in the mail, assembling the machine now with 8x1.5TB EARS. seems my brackets dont fit will, will have to order some from somewhere i think
ok I will build the machine when i get home from work in 12 hours, then might do some IM/skype or something to help me get it set up so you can access it tommorrow or sometime. Would love to be any help I can for your project.
Sub, what sort of access do you need for testing? i could set this pc up with 4-6 1.5TB EARS and point it at a dns, you could do testing on it, Im not in a hurry to fill it with data, and if it helps get the issue sorted out natively then its in everyones interest. What sort of bandwidth is...
Well Im committed to the EARS path, they are the best price at my local store, I currently own 8, + theres one in another pc that i can utilise. The Cards im planning on using are...
I am currently Building a Nas to house my ever growing media collection. I have 8 1.5TB WD EARS to start with. I have no idea if i should build a single Vdev of 8 drives in raidZ2 or possibly 2x4 drive Vdevs in raidZ. I am probably 6 months away from adding another 8 drives, at which time the...
Sata ports are 3Gb/s so you wont even come close to saturating the ports. The only reason to use an external card is for chipset features, if your onboard sata controller is poor, a hardware raid might be suitable, but for 2 drives only, onboard sata raid should be fine.
Thanks Sub.Mesa, I think i will use the CF adapter in my HTPC that im also building, as it might be a while before i get the kinks of iSCSI and diskless clients worked out.
This is my first foray into non windows environment, apart from my dos days back in high school. So at least i have a use...
I got my compact flash - ide adapter in the mail today, so now i just need to know what sort of compact flash cards are idea for this OS. It holds 2 cards which can be mirrored or striped, I was thinking of getting 2 4gb cards. I know that 1gb cards are probably big enough and with MesaBSD the...
This guy seems to have an endless supply of these LSI based cards, and getting a pair for this price means that you don't really need to worry about expanders, the cost of 1 expander would be the same as a motherboard with enough pci-e slots to take extra cards...
I havent tested the build yet because I'm still waiting on my Br10i cards to arrive, but does this webui have the ability to offline a drive, pull it out and replace with a larger capacity drive?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm initially building a vdev with 4x1.5tb drives and 4x300gig...
