Has AMD busted itself trying to beat Intel?

Anyone want to discuss Athlon X2 overclocking? Pencils and Thunderbird? Ge Force 256? Seriously wondering: Is that an honest assessment on your part? And if so why do you think that?

My first 1 hr impressions of my new PNY 5080 OC ...

Across the breath of the cards I've owned I'd say the PNY cards are about average for fan noise. However, I have a couple of 15 year old card which the fans never failed on them. I can't prove this- but I think PNY specs with a little headroom in their designs. Other card's I've owned-...

The Death of Affordable Computing | Tariffs Impact & Investigation

Yeah… most people in the West don’t really understand Asian history. That’s a shame, because it matters. But your point holds water—there are countries now lining up to work more closely with the U.S. The challenge is how we’re going about it. What we’re doing right now is economically violent...

The Death of Affordable Computing | Tariffs Impact & Investigation

Ya know- I'm pretty sure I don't know enough to hold down an argument with you, I'm a bit-head. If you want to know everything there is to known about numad in a KVM environment I'm your guy. Need a kernel patch... I'm the guy. So I'm admitting my ignorance in advance. That all being said...

Modern day PC gaming hardware primarily GPUs completely confuse me.

I got old... At these levels of performance I wonder why anyone even tries to tweak things. My god... I started gaming on an Apple II. There's nothing to complain about except the fact that game publishers aren't doing anything really original.

Poll: Which of the new mid-high tier GPUs are you going to buy?

Was an nVidia guy for decades. I'm firmly in the AMD camp now. No regrets.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Spotted with Missing ROPs, Performance Loss Confirmed

The more cynical among us might even think they released these cards with full knowledge of the missing ROPs due to yield issues.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Spotted with Missing ROPs, Performance Loss Confirmed

I'm not religious about what GPU I use... and had pretty much used nVidia since 2000. This time around (actually a while ago) I got a 6700XT. Every day that goes by I'm glad I made the move. This nVidia stuff is ridiculous.

    Everquest 3 2028

It's a cultural shift. Back when online gaming was exploding starting in oh- 1999- Lifelong friendships were made. It was amazing. And the quality of players was better. Can't go back. Also- these games are corporatized, derivative, and bland. There's been few new game concepts in AAA gaming...

Just as an aside: PNY has been making solid basic video cards for almost 20 years. Always an nVidia partner. They will run forever while others will fail (my anecdotal experience).

    Gelsinger out as Intel CEO

Did you just get to this planet?

    Gelsinger out as Intel CEO

Yea but you're missing the grift. Intel gets it's $8 billion from chips. Sells off a minority stake in it's fabs, gains ... what... 46 Billion in the sale. Now they have $54 billion. They get it for nothing. Just wanted to hammer that home.

    The 285k is embarrassing

Can't help myself: At least when AMD did this trick a decade ago and the TDP was above 250w the chips didn't burn out. My 9590 is still running... um.... since 2014.

    Gelsinger out as Intel CEO

So I decided to do some research regarding this. What was found is this: Intel can spin off it's fab business. It just needs to keep 51% ownership of a separate entity. So what I said recently is still valid. They are going to get out of the fab business. Oh they'll find some fund or venture...

Intel Arc B580, Can Battlemage Deliver What Gamers Need?

Nah- they can sell to another American company with government oversight. Spring I think- Intel will begin to divest itself.

    Gelsinger out as Intel CEO

Remember when I said Intel would sell off fabs? We would meet here in 6 months? We are pretty much there. Intel will not be able to support in house manufacturing. They will have to sell. This means that TSMC's fab(s) that are coming into the USA will be augmented by Intel exiting the chip...

Intel Confirms Debut of Next-Gen Arc “Battlemage” GPUs, Official Showcase Set For December 3

Unless we get a miracle worker into the CEO slot- I think the company is done. The thing that scares me is that Intel has thrown away all their "Steve Jobs/Steve Wozniak" type people. They have a hard time innovating, producing, and selling product. There is also a reported culture problem and...

    Gelsinger out as Intel CEO

How could that be? The company took one of the principle 486 design engineers and hailed him as the man to manage a company that makes modern processors. It was a pipe dream. He'd be a great engineering manager. But CEO? Gelsinger was the wrong pick. Thje pick was the epitome of surviving on...

Would holding for the 9950X3D make sense?

Well... people have said a lot. Here's my take- with not a care in the world about what processor you end up with. It's always better to know all the options on the table at a given time. If you wait you burn time. If you don't you may burn money. But many people think that time and money are...

    The Future of Intel

In 6 months, if TSMC isn't headquartered in the US I will be very surprised. When that happens they can buy anything they want. This mini world war we've got going will cause China to take action on Taiwan and the US is the haven for TSMC.

Yup... had one. Who knows I may still have it. There's boxes of old computer equipment I've not opened in 20 years or more. To me anyway, that was a period where gaming was interesting. Not a lot of copycats. New cool hardware all the time. I'm getting old. Shit- I still play World of...
