I will be on X99, not Skylake. Skylake seemed like a better short term option and X99 seemed like a better long term option to me. All signs are pointing to DX12 benefiting hugely from multi-threading, so X99 seems like a no-brainer. Ironic because I held out on my X58 for Skylake. Oh well ;)

The 2800 has a default voltage of 1.2 and the 3000 is at 1.35. So yea - pretty much. I'm sure the 3000 would be a hair faster once both put to the limits but I'd be surprised if I could measure the difference in any benchmarks.

I changed my PSU during the ownership of my 1st GTX 980 Ti, went from a 1000W EVGA G2 to a PS model, coil whine was identical across both PSU's. If it sounds like it's coming from the card...it's probably the card, given the amount of reviews indicating such.

Coil whine seems to be a common issue with GTX 980 Ti's, or at least the Gigabyte models in particular. On waiting for my 3rd replacement now. Many games were absolutely killing me with the whine.

My Corsair HX650W wouldn't even POST with my Galaxy 980 Ti. Had to get a new PSU. Doesn't seem like aging 650 watts cut it.
