Hi everyone,
I've been wanting to use my new air compressor to clean my PC (instead of buying canned air) but have read a few warnings online. One concern is that water and oil could get on your components. Another is that the compressed air could somehow charge the components and short them...
Thanks a lot for the continued replies everyone, I really appreciate it =)
Badblocks on linux seems to be the most recommended way to stress test an HDD. I don't have linux installed, however, so I think I will make an umbutu bootable CD and do it through that.
As for checking smart and...
Hi everyone,
I've noticed that within the past 2 years SSD's have become significantly larger and cheaper. It wasn't long ago that a 120GB SSD was considered large, and was quite expensive. Now, they are more comparable to 512GB SSD's. in price anyway.
HDD's have been getting larger as well...
Thanks for the replies everyone!
Is there a program out there that can do short/extended/conveyance tests on windows? I've tried a few but it seems like at most they can do surface tests.
Thanks!
Hi everyone,
I was wondering what you do when you receive a new HDD/SDD to make sure it isn't defective or has bad sectors (or whatever else can be wrong with a new drive).
Thank you!
I received the coolspins the other day. These are much quieter than the NAS version, running at only 5700rpm, but are rather slow. The transfer rate is around 100MBps which is acceptable, but the seek times are worse than my old Samsung HD204UI, and is noticeable when navigating folders. It's...

Hi everyone!
I recently purchased some HGST Desktar NAS drives because of their reputed reliability. I was disappointed, however, when I turned them on and noticed how loud they were! They are easily the loudest component of my system and I can not tolerate it.
I'm thinking of trying the...
Hey all,
I've had a $10 newegg gift card for a few months that expires in a few days. I can't think of anything that I need, yet alone that is worth $10.
Any ideas on low cost useful computer stuff?
thanks!
I'm being told by some people that the calibrated black levels look normal, and that my original ICC profile actually had them to bright?
Any input? I thought they were too dark too Armenius, but now I'm not sure.

Hi everyone,
I've been attempting to properly calibrate my Dell U2311h using an x-rite i1 Display Pro, but am running into some issues regarding black level.
After creating an ICC using the i1Profiler software everything looked great, though darks looked slightly darker. I thought it was...
