I have an Athlon 5350 running my Hyper-V/pfSense box. Its not going to break any speed records, but for my purpose it works well enough. Only build the system because I got an AM1 board for $17 and thought I would give it a try.
I don't think there is any way I will be getting anywhere near 300w. The AM1 board is going to have an Athlon 5350 in it which is a 25w part. The only other components in the system are going to be a dual Intel NIC, an SSD, and one 1.35v DDR3 module. I might end up getting the G-360, it would...
I am in the middle of building an AM1 based system to play around with. The case I have is the Silverstone SG13 (http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=536), which takes a full size ATX power supply. Since the system is going to be pretty light on power requirements, I don't need a very...
When your new card arrives, test it carefully to make sure it works. Last time I did an ASUS RMA I went through multiple cards before getting a working one. In the end, they gave up trying to find a working 280x and just sent me a 970. Their front line support is terrible, I didn't get any real...
I have been on it for about a month. So far I don't have any major complaints. I was able to port my T-Mobile number over without any issues. If I had to name a negative, its that voice quality is significantly worse when on Sprint vs T-Mobile.
Anyone get the bug where you leave one of your workshops and all of its resources go down? Just started happening to me. Odd thing is, when I go back everything looks normal.
The Code is what I was originally looking at. The ~$160 price tag was a little hard to stomach though without knowing that it was going to work out for me. In the future I may still decide to give it a try if the Rosewill doesn't agree with me.
Well I took at shot in the dark and picked up a Rosewill keyboard with Blacks. It was cheap and I get to experiment to see how I get along with linear switches. The activation force appears to be similar to the Model M so I don't think that I will find them too heavy (the most common complain I...
Within the next few weeks I will probably be moving into an office with another person. At home I have gotten so used to typing on my Model M that the Dell keyboards at work are a pain to deal with. If I was going to be on my own I would just grab a Unicomp and call it a day, but I don't think...
Just got me Shimian. The screen looks pretty good. I can't see any dead/stuck pixels. The case is more or less clean, just a few scuff marks on the stand. The only thing that bugs me is that it smells a bit like cigarette smoke. I have it next to my open window so hopefully it airs out a bit.
Still waiting to hear back from my ASUS contact. Last email was Thursday morning. I have asked them to send me a different model card of similar performance. At this point I don't even care if I get downgraded to a 285 or a GTX770. I just don't want another 280x. They probably won't do it but...
I have considered that, thats why I am going to test it in another computer. I had ruled out my computer because I had no issues with my 6870 and my power supply is more than powerful enough for a single 280x. I did run memtestcl and it returned lots of errors (seen in the image)...
Well I got the new card they sent me, and it seems to be having similar issues. I have to say I am a little disappointed. They told me this one had been tested. I'll test it in my other system before sending it back but doubt the results will be any different. Oh well.
Before you decide to pick up an ASUS 280x, I would read the ASUS ROG forum post about them.

They issued me a new RMA and assured me that they would take a closer look at the card. It seems that the first time I sent it in they ran a quick benchmark, saw no issues, and sent it back out to me.
Spent a little while gaming on it. Had artifacts show up in a few games. Thankfully none have appeared on the desktop (yet). I guess I will try making contact with ASUS again.
Just got my card back today. They sent me the exact same one. Can't tell if they did anything with it or not. Guess I will drop it in and see if its fixed.
I just did an RMA with ASUS for a 280x. Mailed it out 12/22, ASUS received it 1/7, and I just got notification today that my RMA is complete. We will see if I get back a functional card. Given some of the horror stories I have read about people needing to do 2-3 RMAs to get a fixed 280x, I'm not...
If you have a Fry's or Microcenter near by, they often have mechanical keyboards as display units that you can play around with. I have found that out of all the fancy key switches and keyboards, I still prefer typing on my Model M with the buckling springs.
I am referring to the executable that the bios comes packaged in. When I run it it says "Your graphic card no need to update VBIOS!". So I assume I already have the latest one.
The comments above don't exactly fill me with confidence that this will be resolved in a satisfactory manner. I'm planning on sending the card out at the end of the week. Maybe I'll pick up a new card for Christmas. Till then I guess I can make due with the backup system. Wish I had spotted this...
That's a shame. I remember receiving pretty good customer service with my laptop a few years ago. Drove right to the service center in Fremont and got it taken care of. Too bad there is nothing from Nvidia in the same price/performance bracket as the 280x. The 760 seems to be a bit slower, and...
Has anyone done an RMA with ASUS recently? I'm curious about how long it took to get a replacement card. I got tired of dealing with the artifacting on my 280x and decided to RMA it (should have trusted all of a bad reviews). Now I'm debating about whether to wait it out or just buy a new card.
I think you may need to do some configuration with windows to get it to properly use your dual core. IIRC if windows is installed with a single core processor the HAL is set so that it will only utilize a single core.
