    27" iMac displayport Input

Hopefully something conclusive will come out of that. I got at least a dozen different responses from my AMD support ticket and every time I though I was making some progress with them, a different support rep would answer my next question and it was like starting all over again. Good luck!

    27" iMac displayport Input

It takes about a second or two after pressing CMD+F2 for the display to switch over. It actually takes Windows a bit longer to detect my keyboard/mouse after using my USB switch, but other than that I have no issues having programs running on both the PC and Mac and constantly switching between...

I just noticed that Apple posted a support article last week describing Target Display mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924 They mention using a mDP->mDP cable, which implies the video card on the source computer has a mDP (not DP) output, but that's probably because they're assuming you...

Looks like someone on the Apple boards got an ATI FirePro V3750 to work with the Apple 24" Cinema Display: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2194066&start=15&tstart=0 Given the compatibility similarities between the 24" ACD and the 27" iMac, I would guess this card works with...

    27" iMac displayport Input

After several weeks and numerous back and forths with AMD support, I'm giving up on trying to get a reasonable explanation on why the 5770 does not work with the iMac. They are still claiming that due to the way EyeFinity was designed, you need a powered/active adapter to go from DisplayPort ->...

    27" iMac displayport Input

Not until some active DVI/HDMI -> DisplayPort adapters that can output 2560x1440 hit the market. Belkin is supposedly working on one and I believe Geffen as well. Atlona has one that does 1920x1200 but several people have said it doesn't work with the iMac and that they're working a new rev that...

    27" iMac displayport Input

That's interesting, but that card is probably out of most people's price range. The fact that it works before the Windows video drivers have loaded (similar to the 4890) shows there is either a hardware issue at play with the 5700/5800 cards or some incompatibility in the Mac OS X video...

    27" iMac displayport Input

The iMac has to be powered on and booted into Mac OS X for the target display mode feature to work. The ability to use the iMac as a standalone monitor is something built into the Mac OS X video driver, not the hardware itself.

Yeah that rebate helped make the card a little cheaper. Of course they scam you out of $2 if you want your rebate sooner than 8-10 weeks. I'm currently using the iMac as my main computer for day-to-day work and I use the PC as my video editing box and for anything compute intensive or that...

    27" iMac displayport Input

It still makes sense if you already have a powerful PC and want to buy the cheaper 27" iMac (w/ the Core 2 Duo and 4670). In my case I had a Core i7-975 w/ 6GB RAM that was in need of a video card upgrade anyway. Spending $170 on a 4890 for the PC made a lot more sense than spending an extra...

    27" iMac displayport Input

No, the first card I tried was the 5770, which did NOT work and my second attempt (the 4890) DID work. From an earlier post it sounds like TheDanimal unsuccessfuly tried to get a Nvidia 9400GT to work and will be trying with a Radeon 3470 soon. There are a couple of annoyances, but they're...

    27" iMac displayport Input

That's interesting. Are there even any mini DisplayPort equipped monitors currently on the PC market? I only know of Apple ones (24" ACD, 27" iMac, and those CinemaView Apple clones). If not, it would be pretty pathetic of ATI to release a card apparently catered towards Apple monitors but...

    27" iMac displayport Input

Not me, I've paid enough restocking fees already. But if someone wants to send one my way, I'd be happy to try it out :) The 5970 would be another interesting data point, but my money would be on it having the same issues as the other 5000 series cards.

    27" iMac displayport Input

Ooops! I figured out why Boot Camp wasn't working - I used the retail Snow Leopard DVD to install my Boot Camp drivers (since it was handy) not thinking that this slightly predates the new iMacs and likely does not have the correct drivers. After reinstalling the drivers with the DVD that came...

    27" iMac displayport Input

Yeah it would be good to find more than one video card that works with the iMac. Do post your findings. I tried doing Windows XP via Boot Camp yesterday (to see if target display mode will work outside of Mac OS) but after installing the Boot Camp video drivers, XP just boots into a blank...

    27" iMac displayport Input

It's still possible you have a bad card, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe Apple has more to do with this problem than I first thought. I tried a couple of experiments last night to better understand how the iMac's target display mode really works. If I reboot the iMac and start pounding...

    27" iMac displayport Input

And I assume you didn't have to do anything to enable the HDMI output before it worked? What version of Mac OS are you running on the iMac? You might want to try 10.6.2 if you haven't already updated.

    27" iMac displayport Input

Odd. I get an immediate reaction from the iMac if I plug or unplug the mDP/DP cable while the PC is on. I got at least this even with the Radeon 5770. You might have just gotten a bad card. For something in that price range, I would not be surprised if the quality control on the DP port isn't...

    27" iMac displayport Input

So what happens when you plug a DP/mDP cable between this video card and the iMac while the PC is powered on? Does the iMac screen go black for a few seconds and then switch back to Mac OS? Do you have anything else connected to the Nvidia card (i.e. a DVI monitor) in addition to the iMac...

    27" iMac displayport Input

Nope. Cmd+F2 only seems to work for me if I have something connected. Unplugging and plugging the DP cable should have the same effect as pressing Cmd+F2 though. Also, make sure you are using the Wireless Apple keyboard that came with your iMac, not some other keyboard. The keystroke is...

    27" iMac displayport Input

What exactly do you want a photo of? I'm not sure a pic of the Vista desktop on the iMac screen is all that interesting since you can do that with Boot Camp :) If I get some time this weekend I guess I could post a photo of the BIOS boot up screen on my iMac or the display listed in CCC or...

    27" iMac displayport Input

Here were my steps: 1) Installed 4890 into my PC 2) Connected it to a DVI monitor (did not connect the DP port) 3) Booted up Vista (64-bit) and opened CCC (I'm using version 9.10) 4) Plugged in my mDP/DP cable between the 4890 and the iMac At this point the iMac went blank and then CCC...

    27" iMac displayport Input

Ok, my 4890 came in today and I can confirm that it DOES work with the iMac. I would have preferred the 5770 (slightly cheaper, less power hungry) but until ATI updates their drivers (assuming it's not a hardware issue) it looks like the 4890 is the only way to connect your PC to your iMac.

    27" iMac displayport Input

Where are you seeing "CRT Display on VGA"? In Device Manager or in the Catalyst Control Center? When I attempted this with a 5770, Windows always had 3 monitors listed in Device Manager (I presume for the 2 DVI outputs and the DisplayPort output) whether I had something plugged in or not...

    27" iMac displayport Input

As hornkiku23 stated, if a 4890 works with the 24" cinema display (using a mDP/DP cable), I think it's safe to assume the cable is not the issue here with the 5000 series. The 4890 I ordered is shipping today, so hopefully I'll get it by Friday and find out for sure. If the 4890 works fine...

    27" iMac displayport Input

I'm using the following DisplayPort to min DisplayPort cable: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270262&cm_re=mini_displayport_cable-_-12-270-262-_-Product Why would directionality matter on a mDP/DP cable? Mini DisplayPort has the same pinout as DisplayPort, just with...

    27" iMac displayport Input

I bought a 5770 with the intent of hooking it up to my iMac but had no luck. The issue is that both Windows and Catalyst fail to detect that a monitor (i.e. the iMac) is even attached to the DisplayPort so you can't enable the monitor or configure the resolution for it. I even tried booting up...
