Well, I suppose if it's dead in the water OC-wise, then I'll probably want a bigger PSU for the replacement system anyway, so I guess I'll go that route.
Funny thing is though, I can +.2 on vdimm and +.1 on the chipset and it'll run fine at 6x800, so it *will* overclock and run if I don't...
I have a E6400 with a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev 1. 3GB of AData DDR2, an 8800GTS, some HDs and an Antec 500 True Watt.
For about 2 years, this combo has fought at a solid 3.2GHz, with the RAM running at a nice standard 800Mhz.
Last night Windows 7 wouldn't reboot. So I shut it off. Damn...
All the manufacturers seem to have the SATA 'enterprise class' drives for this.
So I say two things:
I think the numbers the manufacturers publish may infact be somewhat FUD
Even if this is true, I think the solution is in the software. ZFS/RAID Z.
Also, myself I use mdadm to do RAID...
Eh, but if you look at those benchmark numbers that are floating around, the random write performance on the G2s is 40% higher than the G1. I would feel like a sucker if I bought the G1 even at the G2 price.
I know I can look at the older reviews, but it's often two problems that come along with that:
1) Different games. There's not really any one baseline benchmark that stays the same. I know this is sort of a side consequence of how [H] focuses on real world gaming results, which is something I...
One thing I would like to see in [H] reviews are results on older cards. I want to know if the performance delta is there to make it worth my while to upgrade. I have a 7900GTO @ GTX speeds. What's the difference going to be in UT? What's the difference in WoW ?
I never post anymore, but I read this and it pissed me off.
First off, 'geeks' are not more educated than others. This is the beginnings of holier than thou.
Secondly, if you hook something up to someone's dong, they might get aroused by the unusual thing. I don't dispute that there is...
I've been a long time [H] reader. I expect straight shooter reviews devoid of bull. And this review was, except for this at the bottom of the part for Oblivion:
"Paying close attention to the cobblestone texture on the path in front of the camera, you can easily see that the texture...
I am *plenty* fine with other guns. In fact my best gun is the pump 12 guage which has actually gone down in price.
I'm just a little revolted at how out of skew things are becoming. And knowing other weapons doesn't mitigate 2100 for vest + helmet.
5.5k for an M4...2.1k for armor. Anyone else notice that the stuff that got more expensive JUST keeps getting more expensive? There's no market stablization? At what point will Valve say "Yea, this was a horrible idea"?
The Core 2 upgrade was smart I see :)
Sure, my box utterly smashes through current Source stuff, but as the engine gets updated, that means they will be able to tack on more and more because there's more performance overhead. I don't expect it to improve Cstrike and maybe not even Episode 2...
Forget about WGA? I appreciate that MS wants to protect their investment, but as someone who has 3 machines with legit Windows copies, I have to say it's not acceptable for me to have to install some piece of hosing software that slows up my machine just so they can double checkup on me.
Kernel hole exploitation = not cool Kyle, not cool.
For this reason, I've chosen not to purchase this game. Counter-Strike Source will continue vigilantly fulfilling my need to shoot people.
Besides, was I the only one who felt like the actually man to man fighting was awkward? I preferred...
So lately I've encountered a problem. If I reset my modem, I will ping yahoo.com and get 30ms pings. Then about 2-3 minutes later, the pings go above 500. This makes it impossible to play games. I don't *think* it's the modem, because if I unplug the phone jack and then plug it back in *without*...
tokidoki, put up near the top that you have a degree. Just looking at your resume it looked to me like A+ was your primary qualification.
Also, ping for NoVA (I'm in Arlington)
EasyTune 5. Came with my motherboard (Gigabyte 965p-ds3). I have the latest BIOS. Do you have doubts? What do you use?
My vcore is at 1.38 and my CPU is at 8*400 for 3.2GHz and it is at 29C at the moment with CPU util at about 2%.
Does anyone have numbers for 64-bit between A64 and C2D in a Linux system? That's far more interesting to me. I suspect the A64 would be faster. Before you label me a !!!!!!, I just dumped my A64 for a C2D....
Yea, I have an older Antec case and the way the socket is positioned on the DS3, the two 80mm exhausts on my case are next to it, separated by only about a quarter of an inch. So as I'm pushing air across the Infinity with the 120mm, two 80mm are pulling that air through and out the back of the...
I have same heatsink, same CPU, same mobo. But I have 533MHz RAM, haha. I put that stuff to 2.1vdimm 1.39vcore and I'm running at 8x400 right now. (3.2GHz). My idle temp is about 27C and load is about 41. I suspect I could go farther on this CPU, but my RAM is holding me back.
So, two things...
Scythe Infinity + E6400 + 7900GTO = quiet gaming rig.
I dunno, I mean I do some crazy stuff, I've opened PSUs to adjust the pots, connected bridges on Athlons, etc. But I am always wary about the idea of changing the heatsink on the video card because I killed my Voodoo 3 doing that...
I am one of those people who got a GTX box with a GTO sticker and it has happily played at GTX speeds. So really when looking at reviews/comparisons, the closest analog is the GTX, not the 7950GT.
Something else to think about is that the GTO is very quiet.
...from evga hit 800MHz on the RAM just fine. I know there's been some controversy on this, but it works and boy is it fast! I haven't even checked to see if it will go farther.
Actually I just ran Orthos for an hour and 15 minutes, two instances to hit both cores. 6400 at 1.4vcore and 3Ghz and was only 42c load....I don't even need this much vcore to hit 3Ghz. But what may have made the difference was I lapped my CPU. I found the heatspreader to be very concave.
OK. So today I FINALLY joined the dual core club and shed my AGP/nForce3.
I ordered the Scythe since this seems to be the big thing right now and was offering great temps.
The push pin mechanism sucks! I *thought* it was secure. It wasn't. I had lapped my CPU and put this massive heatsink...
These companies are in business not to advance your gaming experience, but to make a profit. If it was more profitable to do what you suggest, they would do so. But it ain't.
I need some help! I got my DS3, but I just realized it's only got *one* PATA port. I've still got some PATA drives I want to hold onto. I'd prefer to throw in an add-in PCI card instead of getting expensive PATA -> SATA adapters at CompUSSR.
But obviously if there's no PCI lock then getting...
Mine being in the different box, I will be interested to see how mine OCs comparatively. diablo111 if you would post how far yours OCs, I would be interested as well.
I'm still waiting for my PCI-E board, so I will post results tomorrow. UPS COULD have delivered it today, but I guess since...
diablo111, I find it interesting that your box says GTO. I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but I posted pic, where they just covered up GTX with a sticker that said GTO.
Where did yours come from? Mine came from MWAVE
